Should we simply answer the question and smile at them?
Should we challenge them openly and ask them to clarify their question and tell why they are asking?
Should we outright be cruel and tell them how stupid they are?

What, are you too f'ing stupid to think for yourself?

(Hmmm, I definitely favor the cruel-and-stupid approach...)

i'm the guy who's the concern of this question. I apologized for my knee jerk reaction to his question. It replaced into printed contained in the religion and Spirituality area of YA!. My reaction replaced into out of frustration after seeing way too many questions and solutions in holding with not something more effective than opinion and incorrect information. R&S is area the position someone may must be very thick skinned with the intention to play there. i'm not a mean human being yet i am going to carry someone to job for what they submit there. i imagine partly that is because i'm a Professor of religion and a Witch for decades. i replaced into humbled formerly this month even as i replaced into chosen as one among 2 people to receive the 2011 Excellence in practise Award for devotion to the community. record me in case you should. it will make little enormous difference. besides the undeniable fact that, I doubt you're even attentive to all the individuals you offended with your question who did not record you. it really is the nature of the religion and Spirituality area.

Not answering them is good. If they see that hardly anyone responds they may stop. It depends if they are being stupid on purpose or not. If it is a genuine question - but just a really dumb one - I won't answer. If the person is being a troll it works both ways. Just don't sink to their level in your responses because a troll is trying to get a reaction out of people.

it depends on the question.

if someone is just having a little fun then there's no harm and have some fun yourself.

if someone is just plain ridiculously stupid and doesn't realize it then try to use a modicum of sensitivity and explain things to that person.

if someone is being a jerk then definitely challenge them. if you are cruel and call names you'll most likely get reported and then no one will see your answer anyway. but yes challenge them openly.

just my opinion,
have a good day.

I can think of no better policy than to simply ignore idiotic questions completely. Perhaps if nobody responded to such questions, the idiots might get the message and straighten up their act.

the purpose of this whole thing is to answer peoples questions if you know the answer than answer but don't look down on any one because there not as smart as you.

on the other hand if the question is just pointless and asked for no reason other than to get stupid answers than ignore it.

Don't feed the trolls! If someone is being stupid on purpose, just to get attention, it's best to ignore them. Although it might be Borat, out to make you look stupid for not standing up to ignorance ... so if you're being filmed, always stand up for what is Right.

Don't argue with a fool, they will drag you down to their level and win by experience. Answer the question and give them a little jab to get them to think about what they are asking.

Ignore them, and report them. Don't answer them at all, no matter what they are saying. All they want are responses, of any kind. No responses means they'll stop posting eventually. By reporting, you'll get the question removed...

which leads me to this: If certain criteria are met: set number of reports, set number of thumbs down, w/in a certain amount of time = auto removal by the system...

I just stare at them until they realize that they are dumber than the words coming out of their mouths. Then I continue on with the conversation like nothing happened.
