You don't mention whether or not you had color on your hair but if it feels like rubber bands and it's breaking you have some work to do. Depending on the kind of perm you used and since it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to, washing it isn't a problem. You are definitely going to need a cut and a deep conditioning treatment. I highly recommend you go to a salon because professional grade products are much different that those you can buy in the store and a professional will be able to tell what went wrong with your perm. It sounds like you overprocessed it but I can't be sure without lots more details. The hair that is damaged will have to come off because once it's split or broken off, it can't be fixed. Once the worst part is cut, the proper conditiong treatments which will include protein treatments and moisture treatments will help to make your hair more manageable until it grows out. Do not put any more chemicals on it, not even semi-permanent or temporary color. I recommend calling around to several salons in your area and asking for a corrective specialist. Either a perm or color specialist will be able to help you even if you don't have color on your hair. You need to see someone who understands the inner structure of hair and the chemical properties of the perm you used. By the way, consultations in good salons are free so even if you have a problem with going to a professional, go in for a free consultation. Good luck.

Oh you poor thing, I'm so sorry. A salon is the best bet for you, they can probably fix it somewhat with products. It will probably cost a bunch too. But truthfully, cutting off what is damaged is really the only good fix. You'll have to have very short hair for awhile. Sorry hon, that is why they want you to test a piece of hair first. This is what you should not, absolutely should not do. Don't use anything with heat. Blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron etc. and whatever you do, don't put on more chemicals. Don't color, straighten or anything. You have to be very kind to your hair for several months.

Your first mistake was going to a horrible hairdresser. Your second mistake was washing your hair. I just had my hair permed about a month ago and it's perfectly fine, and I have very thin and dry hair, and it didn't fall out.

You CANNOT wash your hair for 48 hours after it's been permed because the chemicals still need to set in your hair! Either your stylist failed to tell you this or you weren't paying attention. When you have something that drastic done to your hair you need to do some research to find out how you can maintain your hairs health, since it's going through so much of a process.

To the person above who said it was because you're white...I'm German, my hair is fine. Caucasian people can perm their hair. It doesn't do that bad of damage unless you have a horrible hairdresser, because like I said. My hair is perfectly fine.

Go to a salon. they can most likely help you and fix your problem. I don't know if there is a product that can take out a perm, but if there is, use that. Did you not leave in the product long enough, or maybe you left it in too long?

1. Calm down, only hair, will grow back.

2. HEAVY moisturize it. If you have a heavy moisturizer from the store, slather your hair like never before, then leave in for a few hours.

3. Go get it cut. The split ends won't get better, in fact, they will frizz the rest of your hair.

4. Chin up, this too shall pass.

((hugs))
