Bad sex can be fixed with some love and patients and lots of toys!
A relationship is harder to fix, so consider yourself lucky.

Depends what you mean by 'sex is bad'; there could be physiological ot psychological problems such as erectile dysfunction, impotence etc which can be treated through a chat to the GP or a visit to counselling services such as Relate who can help you identify the cause. It could be a lack of experience - easy to fix! It could be an inhibited personality who needs some ego-boosting and confidence-building work done on him/her. It could be that your sexual needs (frequency etc) are different and this will require a little compromise and effort on both sides. And finally, it could be a lack of physical compatibility, though this is unlikely when otherwise the relationship is strong.
The on ly way to deal with this effectively is to be frank and open, though ever-mindful of your partner's feelings. Say encouraging things such as 'I really love you - being here with you is wonderful AND (don't use 'but') I am always thinking of us together and ways to make sure we never lose this closeness we have. What do you think?'
If your partner has also had concerns, this may be his/her opportunity to express them. If there is nothing forthcoming, then take the initiative again and gently suggest some ideas. You may be surprised how even just talking about these issues can increase your level of intimacy! Good luck.

I am the same situation with my 4yrs. relationship with my Bf.
The sex is not all that but the relationship is strong. I let him know the parts that need to be fixed and take it from there. Sometimes it's not all about sex. I can relate because the sex life is not there any more. What i do is create different sex acts that we can do to give the desire back. Fruits, Candles, Nursing outfits, Chains, and Handcuffs. Just to make it FUN!

save the relationship by talking... just bring up the topic, but you have to be positive about it and not critical at all. nobody likes to be told they're not very good.. make suggestions, think back to when it was good and see whats changed... but most of all, you've got to make the effort if you think its worth it..
