Silly question. People are punished for all kinds of unjust reasons. It's like asking why do bad things happen to good people or something.

"Honesty" can be used as a club to beat people.

Though imo that's not the problem

The problem, imo, is people NOT being honest - not having the raw existential courage to be self-examining and then say what is so. And I know that I don't always measure up in that regard.

Example:

I posted a "neener, neener, look at your hypocricy" type comment in a question asked yesterday.

Now let's look at the honesty issue in that, without going into specifics.

What was honest about my comments is that it *did* strike me as absurd (what the person to whom I was responding said).

What was NOT honest was:this: my perception of this absurdity wasn't WHY I posted my comments. I was , HONESTLY, giving myself permission to be pissy and petty and small.

And my comments were, quite rightly, removed because they weren't either a quetion or answer to the question posed.

So.

Honestly, I don't think I was right to do what I did.

Honestly, though, it felt good at the moment.

Honestly, I'm not at all upset that my comments were removed.

Honestly, I can't say that I'll never allow myself to be pissy and petty and small here ever again.

I can hope to be this honest about it each time it happens, though.

*************

IMO, the most important honesty is being honest with myself.

Honestly, there are times that I'd rather feel right than have things work.

How about y'all?

I don't know. I seem to be punished on this site all the time for saying I don't know a thing when I don't. I'm just being honest.

John 15:18-27
18"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.'[a] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. 22If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. 23He who hates me hates my Father as well. 24If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: 'They hated me without reason.'[b]

26"When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. 27And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
