I know that work done is equal to 1/2 Fm x

Fm=Maximum force
x= Total extension
but surley this differs when using different length springs and differing diameters. I need to know an equastion were i can plug in verying perameters i can then use a spreadsheet to work this info out for me.

The equation doesn't differ for different springs, only the value of spring stiffness k does. A different value of k means the deflection x resulting from a given force Fm will differ also since Fm = k*x.
