For you it's kind of necessary, being a diabetic, to drink diet soda. But the artificial sweetener in many diet sodas is Aspartame. Aspartame has been shown in some studies to cause cancer. But normal soda defiantly has more calories that would need to be worked off.

Carbonated drinks really are not good for you on a large basis. Remember, soda started off as a medical cure but was later turned into a drink to get past the FDA.

All soda pop is bad for you. You should control the amount that you drink to a minimum. Carbonated beverages are not good for the digestive tract especially the esophagus - I ought to know, the doctors told me to lay off so many soda pops. The diet soda have artificial sweeteners that are trouble to some people. My wife has an allergic reaction every time she drinks one. Regular sodas have mostly corn sweeteners - all of this spells disaster for dental problems - gum line cavities, etc.. All told then, I would say that if you can tolerate the artificial sweeteners and the overall quantity taken in that you would be better off than your in-laws guzzling the regular soda on a regular basis.

Regular soda is significantly worse for you than diet soda. Regular soda introduces unnecessary sugars into your body, which just break down into simple carbohydrates and store more fat in your body. They also rot out your teeth.

While no soda is good for you, you do have a leg up on them for drinking diet soda. The artificial sweeteners in them are supposedly not very good for you either, but it's still not as bad as that high-fructose junk they're pumping into their bodies. If you need a soda, drink a diet soda. ESPECIALLY with your condition.

You're diabetic. They need to lay off of you.

Actually Diet Soda is just as worse and dangerous and regular. Diet soda's have some kind of chemical in it, when drunk too often (i.e. 3-5 a day) it can actually give you heart problems.

Saying that, it doesn't mean regular soda is better... regular soda has all that sugar in it, which can give something worse than a heart problem!

A "regular" 12 ounce soda has about 10, 4-gram teaspoons of sugar in it.

A hard-working lumberjack could probably burn that off in a half-hour. A normal couch potato couldn't and would get all of the other benefits of sugar consumption which include: euphoria, increased irritability, increased heart rate, insomnia, tremors, weight gain, ulcers, tooth decay and a depressed immune system. Withdrawal symptoms can include lethargy, tremors, headaches and depression.

So smile, thank them warmly for their misguided concern, and ignore them. You'll be alive long after their bloated corpses are eaten by maggots.

But don't say that last bit... They might take it wrong.

First let me say no, most diet sodas contain aspertane, which can cause seizures, if you h ave a seziure disorder like I do, you better steer away from them as much as possible. Otherwise for diabetics, they need the diet soda. So it depends on the person at the end. It's been said that Aspertame can cause seziures.

I think diet soda is worse because of the saccharin used to sweeten it vs. pure sugar. Equal has been known to cause cancer.
