...."But you only have yourself to take care of."
If so, what went through your mind and how did you respond? Thank you for your input.

This has happened to me on several occasions, generally after I have made some remark to the effect that I don't have enough time or energy or enough time or energy to do this, that or the other or to keep up with all the demands of daily living. The remark always comes from someone who is not alone and hasn't been for so long they forget what it was like. I generally just shut up, figuring there is no way I could ever make them understand what is really involved.

I got that a lot and I thought it is a good thing. It is expensive to take care of other people.
Since I got married my income has actually decreased and my expenses have doubled. My medical bills have also significantly increased, since I hardly ever go to the doctor, but my wife has to go often.
Take care,
Troy

No, that's never happened. For one thing, I have two guinea pigs. Secondly, most of the people with whom I associate understand how STRESSFUL it can be to live alone. Even if you're tired, there's nobody around to help you pick up the slack.

If you are really alone (no family) then you may think that life is passing without purpose. You must get married.
But may be you are alone and your family in at other place due to employment issues. Then you will think how my kids and wife will be there? Or they okay or may some kid is sick etc.

Yes this has happened to me. I would get upset but wouldnt show it. Im married now, but through that entire time i was alone I didnt want to be so it was like "Gee, thanks for reminding me". I think family just doesnt know what they say sometimes can hurt you.

I responded, "Yep and that is not a problem for me. How's your incarcerated grown son doing? You still sending him your money?"

I MOVED OUT OF MY PARENTS HOUSE WHEN I WAS 16 AND YES I HAD FRIENDS/RELATIVES THAT SAID THAT TO ME. AND MY RESPONSE WAS AND ONLY ONE INCOME TO SUPPORT MYSELF ON. PLUS I WAS STILL IN SCHOOL AND COULD ONLY WORK PART TIME AND I SAID THAT TO THEM ALSO. BESIDES IT IS NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS ON WHAT YOU CAN OR CANNOT DO WITH YOUR TIME OR MONEY.
