It was between 20 May and 4 June 1940, when 366,162 men of the British Expeditionary Force and Allied forces were evacuated to England under difficult conditions. The port of Dunkirk and the two moles, or large jetties that pointed out seawards, were the main evacuation points, although many were also taken off the beaches west and north of the town. The evacuation was hindered by aircraft attacks and the shellfire from German artillery positions.

26th May-4th june.
Know this as my dad was left behind with his Division (Beachamp Division, along with the 51st Highland Division) job was to fight on and wait for re-invasion, which obviously didn't come. they fought alongside the French 6th Army in what became known as the battle for France.
Just for the benefit of those who think the French soldiers were whimps! read the history!
their government might have "Caved" in, but they would have fought on!
