There is a central EU agency that is supposed to share information such as these bans so that they can be enforced in EU states. It is quite inefficient as yet and so you probably would be ok until you hear otherwise. What happened to your licence, in the UK your licence would be surrendered in the court and sent to DVLA (the licence agency) to suspend or revoke the licence. If you still have your french driving licence then you would be ok to drive in France until youhear otherwise.

I don't see why not, different country, the ban won't even be on your driving record. You have just had the privilage of driving in the UK which was revoked, since you never held a UK driving license.

My friend kind of did this, he had a 3 year ban in England (2nd offence, 3xlimit) but when we worked in Canada he used his Swiss license.
