Now you know how the rest of us feel.

Yes, people *literally* believe that Biblical account of creation is perfect - people are even willing to try and distort science to try and make it fit, even though it won't. See "Young Earth Creationism" for more info.

The reason people believe it literally, because if they didn't, they then have the problem of needing to pick and choose what's real and what's mataphoric in the Bible, which is dogmatically dangerous.

As for the "evolution as a theory" thing, it abolsolutely is. A *scientific theory*. "Theory" implying an explanation that ties together a series of facts into a cohesive model. That is what evolution is.

Adam & Eve... the Bible and religion teaches us that incestuous relationships are against God.
Eve... made from Adams rib
Adams & Eves children must have to procreate with each other to ensure the success of the human race
Ergo... Adam and Eve's family were incestuous
Incest leads to inbreeding, thereby we have deformity, learning problems, impotency etc - an evolutionary problem. The more inbreeding the more deformity, learning difficulties, impotency etc. Eventually leading to the demise of the Human race within a few generations
Evolution and the survival of the fittest... would Adam & Eve's children evolve only to be 'The Fittest'... if so, evolution works.
If survival of the fittest doesn't work, it confirms that the relationship of Adam & Eve's children was incestuous and therefore against God and the Bibles teachings and as an experiment not worth repeating again.

The Adam and Eve story contains a great deal of moral teaching as well as trying to explain why we have to work when we used to be hunter gatherers. The word Adam means mankind. It's a parable.

There is no conflict between Genesis and Evolution. They offer different models to allow us to understand how we got here. In a hundred years' time there will be a new theory and people will laugh about evolution the same as we do about phlogiston.

Ok... you're going to get a bunch of Christians saying evolution is a lie (they obviously have no education) and that Adam and Eve is the truth.

The thing is, Adam and Eve don't fit into evolution. So don't even bother to try.

Christianity denies evolution out of fear. Because evolution provides evidence that at least one thing in their bible is wrong. Most of the religious can't stand the thought that the things they've believed in (generally out of fear of the unknown) are probably lies. And so they choose to ignore fact in favor of faith. Faith and fact are enemies. At least in most Christian terms.

No religion can be supported by fact. Though the occasional Christian will tell you that because some place name or person name in the bible is fact according to history, that must mean the whole thing is fact...

But you see they ignore some important things....

Their bible talks about immaculate conception, a stick turning into a snake, a sea parting, water turning into wine, a man walking on water, and a man rising from the dead... Christians have a hard time accepting that those things aren't possible so they deny truth because truth puts a hole in their faith.

It all comes from fear. So, according to Christianity, Adam and Eve are true and everything else is a lie.

They don't learn their lessons very well.

I am having the same difficulty because Fundamentalist Christian tend to take the bible as a historical book without any regard to the context it was written in. Catholic scholars agree that the story of Adam is not a historical story but rather a story to point out a particular lesson. Scholars beleive that the first story is older than the second story.

Apparently, some non-believers seem to think that science has some actual "proof" that man came from ape. I think you'd better do a bit of research, cause that proof does not exist, which is why its still nothing more than a theory. I'd like to know why people come onto YA asking questions clearly meant to put down christianity, but don't have enough sense to get the facts straight first. Doesn't exactly show that high atheist intelligence which you guys seem to like to brag so much about.

Evolution is real, it's fact, but the ape to man thing is nothing more than theory, and will in time be proven to be yet another misguided theory.

From the answers so far, gotta say, you guys are not helping that whole "intelligent atheist" concept at all. Cannot believe anyone actually believes science has found some scientific fact that supports the ape to man theory. And you people think we're nuts.

2Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness". God was a eyewitness of the lives of Adam & Eve and told the writer of Genesis what happened.

The historian writer of the Chronicles, Hosea, Luke, the apostle Paul & Jude all referred to Adam as a real person (1 Chronicles 1:1, Hosea 6:7, Luke 3:38, Romans 5:12-14, 1 Corinthians 15:22+45, 1 Timothy 2:13-15, and Jude 1:14).

2 Peter 1:16 "We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty."

“If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed, which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down. But I can find out no such case. ” - Charles Darwin

“For the eye to have been formed by natural selection, seems absurd in the highest degree.” - Charles Darwin

I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE STILL THINK THAT THE WHOLE ADAM AND EVE THING IS A TRUE STORY. HOW GULLIBLE ARE THEY????????????????

(Sorry to shout, but come on!!!!!?)

PS -- Talking about evolution, in less than a few generations the average height of humans has increased, as has the average breast size in women. Is this not evolution taking place constantly?

The bible has no proof of anything....The bible is just a book of fiction, and short stories. And I dare anybody to prove scientifically that all the stories in the bible are correct. I mean, come on, what person do you know that can walk on water, or feed thousand with 2 loaves of bread and a few fish?

What do you have proof of? Are you an authority on the dating of ancient materials? People get paid a lot of money to do that, do you expect them to disagree with with the findings of others who have been paid for their opinions? Radiometric Dating is based as much on theory as Evolution and cannot state something less than 1 million years. As for the fossils of human skulls that are not quite human, or so called cave men, since Radiometric Dating is based on a theory, it is just as possible they are the fossilized remains of the children of the fallen angels. The Bible says they were not normal.
