if you have an actual Radeon 9000, there still is a free driver available from ATI (of course), but the last couple of driver releases do not support the 9000, anymore.
you have to use version 6.5 of the driver for the 9000 (or 92x0):

the 9500 or higher are supported by the latest driver release (6.11)

hi
the radeon 9000 family consists of the radeon 9000(http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeon-prer300-xp.html) and alos the radeon 9250 and 9550 which also use the same driver
the radeon 9000 and 9250 differ from the 9550 as the 9550 have better pixel and shader capabilities(model 2.0) and the 9000 and 9250 have model 1.1
these cards are all quite cheap to buy and the 9550 is the only one in this family that is "vista capable"
all the driver updates from the ati driver update site are all free,as are most of the drivers for the ati cards
good luck
