Well being raised as a Christian and having a deceased parent I should know. I think it is because most religions(not all) see a marriage as a sacred communion between two people who stand before God and friends (at a church) and make a promise to love, honor, respect and help each other until the day one of them dies. That's why in marriage vows it is said "Till death do us part." Christians don't believe in more than one marriage partner because of Adam and Eve. God made one woman and one man to be partners for life until death.

Roman Catholics believe this.
And I believe in the Muslim religion practices it, ( I could be wrong on that one)
As for why, It's because marriage is suposed to be sacred. You are not Supposed to get a divorce ( in modern times it is MUCH easier said than done) But that is how they look at it,
But there are some religions that once you become widowed you go to a shelter with other widowed women, and you are baisically cast out of society.

Any Bible-believing church could teach this because in the Bible divorce is not an option -unless there is an on-going affair. It teaches that husbands are to love there wives to the utmost and to treat them as Christ Jesus treats the church - He loved us to the point of giving up His life for mankind to be saved. It teaches that God hates divorce (not the people, but the act of divorce) and in many cases remarriage is viewed in God's eyes like adultery itself. It teaches us to reconcile and to love unconditionally, not divorce. Unfortunately the average "Christian" church does not teach their congregation to be selfless like this.

So to answer your question, Christians do practice this if they have a good understanding of the Bible.

On a side note, even though Christians are to practice this personally, the Bible also teaches not to condemn others who don't practice God's commands. Just to love them. It's all about faith and love.

Several branches of Christianity believe that marriage is a union that lasts until death and if you remarry before your spouse passes away, you are committing adultery. The loophole to this is if your spouse is abusive and/or if he or she is unfaithful.

The truth is a woman can remarry if her husband has committed adultery and that is why they divorced. Matthew 5:32

You can remarry (according to most religions) if your spouse is dead, if they comitted adultery on you (and you didn't do the same to them), or if they abused you. Some religions don't recognize spousal abuse as a reason for divorce.

It applies to both female and male. Is in the bible. Remarriage only if one commits adultery and not willing to forgive then they are free to marry. Free to marry if spouse is deceased.

Forget deceased - Hindus don't allow their wives to re-marry EVER if the husband divorces her/dies. Then they get sent to camps. See the movie 'Water' for more info.

in the Bible it talks about this. if they die or are unfatihful to you then that is just cause to divorce. the reason is because when you sleep with someone, you become one with them. that seperation does internal damage inside a persons heart. it feels like a tearing process and therefore anyone who commits adultry or fornication (sex before marriage) sins against themselves.
