What is the purpose for the tiny white dot in the chicken egg?

The white dot on the yolk of the egg is where the embryo would develop if the egg had been fertilized.

It serves no purpose. It is just a result from the formation of the egg.

We grew up on a farm and was told that it was the sperm. I never believed it, but I have been told that by several chicken farmers.
