I know we can't just leave. its to late for that. as much as i'd like it. but what if we where to set up a base out somewhere in the desert. make it real secure 4or 5 cheek points just to get near the place , a training center for an army < that is iraqy> made up by a draft> of young men who must serve there nation. have a large refugee camp with weman and childern and people that need safty. cheek them for weapons before thay enter.so thay can't kill each outher. and send the new army out as there trained to take back there city's and bring our boys out as the new force takes control. it would cost money but hell we spent 100s of billions already. a lot of tents and food and water. suround the place with tanks and choppers and men ... maybe in a year we'd be out of there. what da yall think ? our people are getting killed potroling the citys and on roads. there fairly safe in camps.I know I'v spoken to some of them.it's when thay go out on potrol that they get killed

Having spent 16 months over here now, I can tell you that the Marines in the Al Anbar province actually do something similar to what you just described. In fact they take cities that have had lots of problems and basically wall them in them in with a huge berm. Then they only allow travel in and out thru a few tightly controlled check points. This reduces the amount of weapons that can be brought in, and it helps to catch foreign fighters and others.

not bad but i doubt that will work. imprisoning the people in their own country.

the draft idea is very very good. if the U.S. can try to get the Iraqi government to implement a draft for all men 18 years and older then the iraqis will be FORCED to work with each other whether sunnis or shittes; they will work as one force... THAT WILL END the CIVIL WAR... not only that the iraqi families will even support the government or be more involved if their kids were in the military.... this would also cost the US a whole lot of money because they'll need ammunitions, food, training, and pay for the recruits... definitely the car bombing, assasinations would make a significant decrease....

Your a day late and a dollar short! They already do that. There is a secure training facilities in Jordan. The real problem is that all these recruits belong to one tribe or another and all the tribes have some blood feud going with the other tribes. Thus when it comes time to stand up for the Iraqi govt they become conflicted between there govt and their tribe. Plus the recruits have relatives in the militia's so they are not too enthused to engage a militia as they may end up shooting thier brothers.

Won't work because the Shites and Sunni's hate each other. That is the problem now the Iraqi soldiers and police who are Shite are killing the Sunni's. And the Iraqi soldiers and police who are Sunni are killing the Shites.

Better idea!
1. get our troops out of there completely
2. make Iraq, Iran, and Syria a glow in the dark parking lot for the next 100,000 years.

I think that would work but it would be hard to convince the government to do so. We would have to get rid of Bush 1st and then put a democrat in office and hope they would go along with it.
