My sister got detention and the teacher wants to talk to my parents, I don't understand though why. Here is what happened, the teacher set up a group assigment and broke the class up in groups of 5. Two of the kids that my sister was grouped with were black, and before you call me racist, the reason I mention their race is because they brought it up first. When they were in the group trying to gather info during class, the two black kids would not help at all, my sister and the other 2 kids kept telling them to help out and do their share, but they didn't want to. They also kept using horrible grammar when speaking in which my sister decided to correct one of them on his choice of words. My sister then went to the teacher and requested to be changed to a different work because of the two black kids lack of respect and work ethics. The teacher talked to both the kids and somehow they said they felt insulted and that she had been rude to them because they were black.

This school has been sued before because of racial tension amongs blacks, so the teacher and councelor didn't ask questions, they slammed my sister with detention and a meeting with my parents. What did my sister do wrong though?

ok you can call me whaever you want cause i dont be givin a @#$%
i was THE white kid in my jr high and because of that i was picked on and beat up (but never by just one black kid because they cant fight fair) and whenevr we had a group project i was the only one who cared about it so i see where she is coming from. the thing about black kids today is that they know no matter what happens if they have a problem with a white kid all they have to do is cry racism and the whole world runs to their side its an unfortunate situation but thats the way it is in the united states of george bush (hes an @#$hole) there isnt anything your sis can do about it without being branded a racist (which is better than being branded a dumb ******) Hey its not that hard to use proper english and to pick up your end of the workload. the world is not gonna bend over backwards forever just because you cry racism things will change eventually. Why do they cry for equallity when what they really want is superiority. why cant we have a united poor white kid college fund. or white history month. or an orginazation like the naacp for white ppl. or white entertainment television. Ill tell you why, because if we did we would be called racists, and we would have lawsuits brought against us so fast our heads would spin. i am gonna go get a petition together against the united ****** college fund because i think THATS a racist organization.
(thanks for letting me rant)

Your sister didn't do anything wrong. She was right to go to the teacher, although the teacher didn't handle it right. I AM a teacher so I"m going to tell you what she SHOULD have done. She should have had a list of group expectations and particpation points. If she divided up the group, she should have given each group member a specific job in the group, that way everyone has to participate, but wouldn't reflect on your sister if the other two didn't take on the responsibility of completing the work. I think you sister needs to be present when the teacher/prinicpal meets with your parents to share her side of the story, because I think that the teacher jumped to some unnecessary conclusions. Make sure your parents understand your sisters side and are ready to back her up.

Blue, black, white, pink...whatever. Not the issue...if those two kids were not helping then she did nothing wrong....but you already know the problem....the school is over sensative to racial issues and they don't want it to happen again.
YOu answered your own question. You sound like a nice sister or brother, life just isn't fair all the time.
Try to put this one behind you, if you let the unfairness of life eat you up, it will do just that. Playing the "race card" is the nastiest thing I can think of, it actually hurts more people of color than it helps. Just so you know, I have many many close friends and relatives that are not white and they would agree with every word I have said. Try to get over this, there is no we and they in your question, it is the schools fault, they should be ashamed.

I don't think that she did. I think that by going to the teacher and explaining the situation she did the right thing. I'm sure her grade would be affected if those two didn't participate. It also would not have been fair to her if some of the kids in the group did not participate but got a good grade because of the ones who did help out. It's so frustrating when things like this happen. I feel so bad for her.

your sister didn't do a thing wrong i an a Latina so this is not a racial thing in anyway i have afrocuban in my family so for the people who read this and feel offended in anyway its not directed to any specific race.......but unfortunately there is in every race a few of the kind that like to use the "oh it because of my race "excuse and now there being let and excused for using this poor excuse as a ticket to what ever they want ...i once again am a Cuban making me Latina and proud of it but i refuse to use that sorry line on anyone unless i can prove other wise that it was racial so i feel bad that this happened to your sister .......you should ask and see if the Principal would allow those kids to be there in the meeting and ask them in different rooms exactly how she insulted them just to see if there stories match and if they don't them they will have to say sorry to your sister in front of every one for taking advantage of there own history ...........us minority have come a long way there still is a few racist people out there who don't except that were all the same but when some of us act this way it puts us back a step closer because we cause the person that really wasn't racist to become racist and that's sad .............good luck

I don't think your sister did anything wrong. Doesn't matter if they were black, white or whatever. Sounds like she wanted with a different group that would help with the assignment. Your parents need to take this up with the principal when they have the meeting. And they should stress that she wasn't being racist, she just wanted a cooperative group. Best of luck! :)

I don't understand why your (not black) sister got detention for this but - OK, whatever. It doesn't seem like she did anything wrong.

Nonetheless, your sister has to learn to adapt to groups, regardless of color. We've all been in groups where people don't do their share. In school, I was a stickler and always concerned about my bottom line grade, so regardless if the person was black, white or hispanic and didn't participate, I still did my part, along with some of theirs and possibly mentioned to the teacher later.

She did absolutley nothing wrong. I hope your parents understand that as well. If the two black kids were white kids then she would have never gotten thrown in detention. If anything her receiving detention was wrong and unfair. She should have an equal right in the class to effiecent partners. It is unfair for her to have to do all the work. Explain to your parents and they should understand. Tell them to talk to the principal she doesn't deserve detention. If your parents argue enough the school will change their minds.

ok, now personally i dont think she did any thing wrong its just that the school is afriid 2 get sued again ,now maybe the boys are very pround 2 be black, well a litttle 2 proud ,and beacause of the altercation ,the boys since thye have pride 2 be black, involve race in almost every thing they talk about ,and since the boys involved race in the thing the teacher was afraid there was going 2 be a lawsuit so thats why maybe.

It's not the black kids. It's the teacher and how he/she dealt with the situation. The 'black kids' just had leverage in the situation and the teacher just mishandled it. It doesn't matter what color you are, anybody who is cheeky enough to get away with something will try and since that school has racial issues the teacher obviously didn't have the 'strength' to deal with it.
