Let's take the Christian view that we were created by God. Why would a loving being create children and then require worship? Why would this creation be given the ability to think and decide and then be expected to put that on the shelf so we can worship the creator without so much as asking why?

... and then not give us a clear sign that "yes, god is here. Worship!"

Yeah, this is the same question I keep asking, and I keep getting terrible answers for it. God made us to worship him, then made the careless mistake of giving us the option to not worship him. Either god is incompetent, god is malevolent, or god is not omnipotent.

Chris M,
It's like this, Chris:
Adam and Eve manganged to separate us from God. Now all we have to connect us to God are acts of faith. Worship is faith in action. Since we no longer, as the race of man, see God; thanks to the acts of doubt that Adam and Eve separated us, we pray, give, fast, and love in His name; the name of Jesus (our 'connector' to Him), we gain again a part of the connection to Him that we are guided to have with Him. (Whew! Long sentence!)

"Let's take the Christian view that we were created by God. Why would a loving being create children and then require worship?"
Because that's what He requires, and it is pleasing to Him. No other reason. The world sees this as wasteful, foolish, but God sees it as wonderful, and pleasing.

"Why would this creation be given the ability to think and decide and then be expected to put that on the shelf so we can worship the creator without so much as asking why?"
Our choices are tainted. We have this awful nature of going away from Him, that was not in the original nature of man. We THINK that we can judge right from wrong just as good as God can, and yet we do things wrong. What is that about? lol

It's about what happened to all those that followed after Adam and Eve. We basically suck at things.

When we turn to Him, His promise is that we will have His life in us, and it will change us, very gradually. We do change, slowly, and are given to what is referred to as 'backsliding' because that nature in us that is so wrong wants all the control back. Again, thinking that we can think rightly. That's when we get prideful, which is why that kind of pride is bad, and then we suffer the consequences yet again! lol

That's why the Bible says that 'Whom He loves, He chastens.' He doesn't want us to go unaware of our failures, so that we can learn. Those that are not chastened typically, He has no interest in. They are not led by God, he doesn't want them.

But for all of us that are His, He deals with. And we suffer at times, so that He can lead us closer to Him.

"Why give choice and take it away?"
He warned Adam and Eve NOT to take the choice. And they did. And so, here we are! lol

You don't see the irony inherent in the question, eh?

God didn't take away your ability to make decisions or question Him. Isn't that exactly what you're doing now? Are you being required to worship God right now?

God created children and then gave them a plan whereby they could learn, grow, and have joy. When we do what God tells us to, we have more joy than when we don't. You may not believe it, but I've proven to myself that this is true. As for God's children being expected to not "ask why"...I'm not sure where you're getting this from. My religion actively encourages people to seek out truth and determine for themselves whether or not the church is true and the gospel plan is true. Perhaps you've just been exposed to the wrong church, because you're right, the christian church you're describing doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

It's not that we are expected to not question God, but to trust Him and follow His will, even if it doesn't make sense to us at the time. We always have the choice to not do so. But, as with any other situation where you have a choice, there are consequences which ever way you go. Me, I prefer the positive consequences of loving and obeying God. Numbers 6:24

I think you're confused about the reason for worship. When you worship, you are telling God that you understand his plan, and are submitting to it, and God requires that you buy into his plan in order to spend eternity with him. We are always given the choice of whether or not to do this, but we must also understand the consequences of that choice, and that is expulsion from God, also known as Hell.

God never gave choice and took it away. Worshipping the lord God is a choice which is why you have people in the world who are free to believe what ever they want.

When it comes to religion there are many choices out there. It's not what you read but what you do with what you read in action.

To the christians, worship is something that they wants to do and enjoy doing. It enable them to come into His presence so that some intimacy time can be spent with Him. The bible provides information about Him, but worship allows christians to experience Him.

Who said we are all children of God.. We are His creation just like the grass of the field and the cows out there eating it. To become a child of God you must receive Him. No one that I can see in forcing that action. Do so, or don't it's your free choice... Jim

God wants us to choose Him out of love not out of demand (the angles do that) He never took away our gift of choice, but He did give a consequence for the wrong choice, take for example, if one had a child and gave them a rule (like curfew), that child then breaks that rule (he/she made that choice, which all of us have a choice to follow rules or break them) now, would you punish the child? Of course you would if you don't then you do not love your child, because a loving parent would teach their child discipline.

It is because you are not a believer that you do not understand. God never said not to ask why. Part of faith and building a relationship with God is to ask questions, then you grow in your belief as you find the answers. God doesn't want someone who loves Him just because He has something to give us. He wants us to love Him because He loves us. He wants a genuine love, just like His love is genuine for all.
