My carpets are dark blue...i have gry paneling on one walls and the other walls are bright white. I can't paint or put anything perm. on the walls. it's very, very small. I need some ideas to make it look more like home. Also, I have a tiny kitchen that is pretty much attached to the living room with only a low counter to separate the two rooms. Is there something I can do to separate them without it looking tacky? I also have an even smaller bathroom, with gry/wht flooring and only a medicine cabinet for storage. I'm desperate and poor! help!

Your question is a fun one!

There are a couple of options open to you, some of which other people here have noted for you. You could use a stapler (the holes are really not noticeable once you take them out and disappear when the next person paints. You can staple up some really nice fabric or you can find some really nice inexpensive wall paper on sale at an outlet store or walmart or something. If that's still too expensive, try using wrapping paper. You'd be surprised at how nice it can look and it's an inexpensive way to change the whole look. You might also want to invest (not much) in buying a can of 3M glue spray. Make sure you get the repositionable, removable kind and not the permanent. Once you take down whatever you had put up, all you have to do is wash the walls with hot water to remove the glue residue.

You could also make your wall into a collage. Use your favorite pictures, postcards, pictures from magazines, your own drawings, etc. Hand them all the same but really go for that wall gallery look with lots of them up there.

You could use plants to separate your kitchen from your living room. If that doesn't please you, you can always put up a blind, a board with one side a corkboard (the kitchen side) and one side a painting or artwork hung (the living room side) You could also put up a sheet of glass or plexiglass and use stained glass paint to make a really great conversation piece that will separate the rooms but not block out any light.

In your bathroom, there are lots of ideas for storage. You can put a really nice piece of material around the sink to the floor using self-stick velcro. Just make sure you sew the velcro to the material or it'll come off in the laundry. This will allow you to hide those ugly things you don't want to see: toilet plunger, toilet brush, cleaning products, etc.

You can also use a really cheap small bookcase that can basically be found anywhere (even in second hand shops). Use the same material you use for the sink skirt and make curtains for the front of the bookcase. You can even put them up just with wire and don't even need a curtain rod but you would be best to have the drapes attached at the top and at the bottom of the front of the bookcase. You can then slide the material open whenever you need access. These bookcases with baskets (plastic at the buck store are easy to keep clean) keep a myriad of things out of sight and give you storage.

Have fun, whatever you decide.

u should really watch the home and garden channel. It has some shows on there that show u how to recycle things u have and how to manage ur money so u can fix things up too. and in the kitchen, u said it was small. to open it up, just put a small mirror right behind the stove. it really makes it look a lot bigger. if it cant be permanent, then i would suggest buting the hooks that dont leave marks on ur walls. for ur furniture, i would decorate ur couch with a dark blue blanket that is folded over into a triangle, buy a few cheapo throw pillows in a similar color to the blanket and the same amount of pillows in a cream or white color so u dont have the same color everywhere. to seperate ur two rooms i would probly try to put a small table or maybe evn something like a bench ya kno? it would be able to seperate the two rooms and if you buy the bench it would add storage. u alwas want more storage no matter what! then in ur bathroom, for more storage i would buy something that is kind of like a tower with shelves, in silver, and that way u can store ur towels on some of the bottom shelves and maybe ur lotions and bubble baths or anything else on some of the top shelves. to add color to ur bathroom i would bring in some colorful towels and maybe a new shower curtain. it adds ur personality and it brightens the whole room. good luck with every thing! i hope i helped u some...

I had the same problem. I placed my couch or chair in front of the counter to separate the rooms
I even hung up a hanging plant there too. If you can afford it those shelves that go above the toilet help with storage.. Dollar stores, 2nd hand store, garage sales you can pick up some knick knacks. There is nothing wrong with hitting the free box at sales. I found some wall paper boarder that was removable didn't mess up the paint

Try hanging items on the wall you're interested in..ie: sports, cars, movie posters, etc...for a separator try using a bigger piece of furniture or a screen...maybe hang a clear panel from the ceiling...today's hot look is open...using mirrors on walls opposite windows allows more light in by reflection..

For the walls...try hanging fabric or cotton tapesties...there are some cool ones at Urban Outfitters and also at Bed Bath and Beyond.
