Tell me what you are stuck on and I'll help you try to understand... Crucifixion is a large subjest. Do you want to know about the crucifixion of Jesus, The process of how it's done? What do you want to know? Jim

I think the first thing to do is to explain about the cross. It does not really matter in exactly what dimensions it was made , or whether it was a tree, etc. The likelihood is that it WAS two crossed planks in the way that we see the crucifixion today. This is because there were so many crosses needed at that time due to all the crucifixions being carried out by the Romans that they must have found it necessary to have them manufactured by local carpenters.
Next I will list all the the important Christian beliefs that I can think of about the crucifixion of Jesus.
1. It WAS Jesus on the cross. (Some people try to say otherwise)
2. He did actually die and did not simply fall into a coma.
3. He went to the cross willingly.
4. As a human he felt all the pain, humiliation and disappoinment that any other man in that position would have felt.
5. His death was part of God's plan for the salvation of mankind as a result of the first man turning against God. The beginning of that plan started with God's promises to Abraham.
6. The cross was in the place of the altar and Jesus was in the place of the sacrificial lamb that the Jews offered to God for the forgiveness of sins on their Day of Atonement.
7. As we believe that Jesus was God the Son, the sacrifice was the most perfect sacrifice that could possibly be made.
8. Because of His perfect sacrifice no further animal sacrifices are necessary.
9. This means that the sins of the world were atoned for and all that people today need to do is to believe in Jesus and their sins are forgiven.
10. He DID subsequently rise from the dead and was seen by many people. (Some people claaim that he did not.)
I hope I am not too late for your homework.

Crucifixion is an enormously complicated issue. In summary, they believe that Jesus' death is a single sacrifice that takes on the symbolism of humanity's sins (since sacrifice in the Old Testament was generally the way of doing this), while his resurrection is both a sign of hope for the future and the ethical action on God's part in response to Jesus' death, demonstrating his power to the rest of mankind.

Whether or not this much is true, I believe they are mistaken in simply allowing this to occur. Jesus did say "Take up your cross and follow me", not "Sit there and watch as I go get myself killed to justify your inaction". (Say that in your homework and you'll either get full or no marks)

You are using Christians as a catch all for a massively wide spectrum of people. Some Evangelicals are absolute fanatics that what they have read in whatever bible they have in their hands is the absolute word of god. The other end of the spectrum are those who feel that the crucifixion was a bid set up and Jesus did not die and was not even crucified. You have a lot of homework ahead of you.

Crucifixion was common in the days of jesus it was the most humiliating way to die, before jesus was crucified he was mocked, and whipped ,the whip was not just a whip but it had pieces of lead and bone in it, as it touched his back it caught on to his skin and ripped pieces out of his back, and after 39 stripes he would have had no back left, which is why in the bible it says i gave my back to the smiters, when jesus was on the cross the nails that they used were 2pound in weight each and went through the wrists and feet. Crucifixion caused death by suffocating you other things would happen but the eventual outcome was suffocation.jesus did the hardest work of his life when he went on the cross, that was where forgivness of sins came in, and where real love and grace and mercy was shown,it was where jesus was separated from his father for the first time since creation, i believe this is why he asked the father to let this cup pass from him.he wasnt fearing the pain or the trials but was fearing the separation from god ,because gods head turned away from the sin that was upon his son,god cannot look at sin.we know jesus did not fear the pain because many apostles were tortured and died and fed to lions and burnt at stakes how much more of a man was jesus.because it was the eve of passover all the people on the crosses had to be taken down, if they was not dead then the soldiers would break the peoples legs, this would stop them from pushing up on their legs to help them breathe, jesus did not have his legs broken because the bible says in a phrophecy that not one bone would be broken on jesus ,he gave up his spirit when he asked god to forgive them, for they know not what they do, and the most important words that will ever be said were spoken it is finished.the soldiers got a sword and peirced his side and blood and water flowed out, this blood was shed for all so that we could have the chance of forgiveness and a chance to be right with god, when jesus was on the cross his face was so badly damaged that it was unrecognisable
when he rose from the dead 3 days later he was perfect and by jesus raising from the dead we have eternal life in him the grave could not hold him and death had no victory, causing jesus to defeat satan and his plans think of how he suffered and bled for you, no man who you know would have done that for you, take this chance to ask him into your life and to become a child of the king and i hope you will find the peace of god and the righteousness that jesus died to give to you

There was nothing special about the crucifixion. It was a standard punishment given to people by the Roman occupiers. It's the wrong thing to focus on in Christianity. What the focus should be on is the resurrection. Jesus beat death, and without that event, there is no Christianity.

OK, let me give you my beliefs on the crucifixion. Jesus Christ who is the Son of God came in the flesh as the Son of man and, being tempted by Satan, lived a perfect sin free life. Jesus came on His own free will (God allowing it) for one purpose - to save man from sin. God can not look on sin, so a sacrifice had to be made to appease God. Jesus became that sacrifice (the perfect sacrifice) in dying on the cross and all the torture and cruelty of the crucifixion. He was buried in a borrowed tomb, and was raised from the dead on the 3rd day carrying with Him the keys to spiritual death for all mankind. You and I now have the free will choice to accept the gift of God who gave His only begotten Son to die for us, so that we could have eternal or everlasting life. This means that all we have to do is accept Jesus as our personal Saviour, and we will not only be saved from a life in Hell, but we will have eternal life with Jesus in Heaven. Accept Him today before it is too late. He has paid the price of your sin whether you accept Him or not, so what have you got to lose?

So then we researched information regarding how the Cross became the symbol of Christ's execution, since all evidence points to death on a pole or stake. One site, http://www.thewordsofeternallife.com/cross.html was particularly interesting. It shows the cross was not adopted as a Christian symbol until centuries after Christ's death! It was adopted in an attempt to make Christianity more familiar and "friendly" to the pagan converts. We have found other sites with equally interesting information, so we compiled a list of them for your perusal.

Read from Matthew to John. You'll get a pretty good idea. You have to pray first before you read your bible, its not a novel.

I believe that Jesus chose to come down from heaven to earth in human form and lived as any regular human being at that time. To show us that it is possible to live a holy life without sin. He chose to die for the all our sins, that were committed then and those that were still to be committed. All we have to do is ask for forgiveness in His name and God will forgive us.

That crucifixion is the core of my beliefs. I believe that He, Jesus, was then raised from the dead. He went up to heaven again. Because of His death, I do not have to slaughter any animals to ask for forgiveness, I don't have to go to a priest to confess my sins. I can pray straight to God and my sins will be forgiven. The same room that the priest went to for the cleansing of our sins in now in heaven. The holy of holies.

In Christ's life of perfect obedience to God's will, His suffering, death, and resurrection, God provided the only means of atonement for human sin, so that those who by faith accept this atonement may have eternal life, and the whole creation may better understand the infinite and holy love of the Creator. This perfect atonement vindicates the righteousness of God's law and the graciousness of His character; for it both condemns our sin and provides for our forgiveness. The death of Christ is substitutionary and expiatory, reconciling and transforming. The resurrection of Christ proclaims God's triumph over the forces of evil, and for those who accept the atonement assures their final victory over sin and death. It declares the Lordship of Jesus Christ, before whom every knee in heaven and on earth will bow. (John 3:16; Isa. 53; 1 Peter 2:21, 22; 1 Cor. 15:3, 4, 20-22; 2 Cor. 5:14, 15, 19-21; Rom. 1:4; 3:25; 4:25; 8:3, 4; 1 John 2:2; 4:10; Col. 2:15; Phil. 2:6-11.)

Sin came into the human race thru Adam and so it had to be atoned for (paid for). This could not be done by anyone who had ever sinned. Jesus was (and still is) the only human to have ever lived who never sinned, and so in His sacrifice on the cross atonement was made. - he paid the price in full - forever!
Now anyone who accepts him as their Saviour - ie. the one who paid the price for THEIR sins - will be born again and go the Heaven (in due course).

Hope this info helps with your homework : )
