I left work sick Sunday morning at 1am with diarrhea. I have been taking Pepto non stop since then but it doesn't seem to be working. I haven't eaten since Saturday night because I'm afraid to. I have only been drinking water and Gatorade. Is there any other medication I can try that will work on it?

U don't mention whether it's the regular, maximum strength etc... but I use Imodium Advance... clears right up. Maybe it's what u eat Saturday?

Do u have a fever or mucus in your bowel movements? Because then u need to stop, see Dr. U need to eat, stop the Gatorade. Start with alittle 7up and few saltine crackers. If that will stay down, how about jello? I usually start with jelly toast but that is me. And my meals are tiny and then I build up all the while still taking my Centruim Multi Vitamin. Water is good but u need some nutrition. Whatever u think u can handle.

Imodium is to prevent diarrhea, however, it does not do much once you get it.

What you are descibing sounds like gastro and it will need to get out of your system. Do not drink Gatorade as it contains colorants and sugars. Instead, eat white, plain rice and toast without nothing. Rice might help you with it. Keep on drinking the watter as you are most likely to dehydrate if not.

You should know that if the diarrhea continues longer then 72 hrs, you should go the the emergency and get it checked out.

Treatment
Most cases of diarrhea clear on their own within a few days without treatment. If you seek medical attention, your doctor likely will advise you to take steps to replace the fluids and salts lost during diarrhea.

Your body needs adequate levels of salts and electrolytes — minerals such as sodium and potassium — in order to maintain the electric currents that keep your heart beating. Disruption of your body's fluid and mineral levels creates an electrolyte imbalance. Unless restored by replacing fluids and drinking an electrolyte mixture, this imbalance can be serious.

If your doctor determines that an antibiotic medication caused your diarrhea, you'll need to stop taking that medication and modify your treatment plan.

If a parasitic infection caused your diarrhea, prescription antibiotics may ease your symptoms. Antibiotics sometimes, but not always, help ease signs and symptoms of bacterial diarrhea. However, antibiotics won't help viral diarrhea.

If you have chronic diarrhea, treating the underlying disease may help ease your diarrhea.

I agree... pepto works for some things but if it's not working for you now, do try Immodium AD. I have taken both and I find that Immodium works better for some upset stomachs where Pepto does not. Immodium comes in a liquid, pill and chewable tablet. The chewable tablets taste really bitter to me, just so you know. Good luck.

i live in the caribbean, trinidad to be exact, and Coconut water always works!!! it really do, so if you can get it that would be great... cause its natural water. not medicated. and gatorade is a NO NO, cause sweet things would only make it worse! NO milk also cause that worsens, and ppl shouldnt try to stop it cause usually its eliminating stuff in ur body that isnt good...

Immodium is what people usually turn to. When you can eat again, try bananas and rice (not together, that sounds yucky).
