Ask your prescribing doc...it's usually a bad idea to mix alcohol with meds. Aside from the effects of mixing, it can throw you back into a depression, which I doubt would be helpful. But if you think you're going to really want one, doc can tell you if one is okay and stick with that limit.

Wellbutrin metabolizes heavily in the liver, therefore, drinking is not recommended. If you do decide to drink a few beers while taking your meds, the results won't be fatal. However, you won't feel great and depending on how much you drink, you can get some really sickening hangovers.

Now, since you just started taking your meds, it's going to take a while for your brain to be fully saturated with the medication in order for it to work correctly. Reuptake inhibitors are very complex in how they help manage depression. You don't want to miss taking your meds, it will screw with process and you don't need that, especially when you're depressed.

I would advise that you abstain from booze for at least 3 - 6 months and give the meds a chance to work properly.

I am not saying this is a good idea, because it is not and I don't want to encourage drinking while on antidepressants, but in my experience...having been on Wellbutrin for about 8 years, I have never had it interact negatively (or positively for that matter) with alcohol. I used to not take it when I would go out and knew I would be drinking, but my therapist and doctor told me not to do that, that I should absolutely not skip doses that way.

Uh, no. It's not the Wellbutrin you should stop, it's the alcohol. You can't drink while you take antidepressants. If this is something you can't do (not drink)...then you have bigger problems than depression.
