I know why pain pills and anxiety meds are controlled substance. But why are sleeping meds a controlled substance if they don't make you anything but sleepy? Like i take ambien and thats a controlled substance

They are addictive. Also subject to the wrong kind of use, that is, harmful--like steroids are.

because if you take too many you could overdose and die...also, because they can be highly addictive..
