I HATE them. Even worse are the ones who wait at a mall entrance at Christmastime and follow you to your car. As a woman shopping alone, I find it extremely intimitading - I mean, you never know who's following you!
If I'm followed from a mall entrance, I let them follow me. Then I drop the bags into my trunk, close the trunk and head back into the mall - EVEN if I'm done shopping. Totally mean, I know.

I have to plead guilty to being a vulture, especially in bad weather, after I've worked a 12 or 13 hour shift, and most especially when I have my 6 month old grandson with me. I do, however, try to leave adequate space for the person to back out, and I pull over to the side enough that other cars can pass. Some of the other vultures undoubtedly are people who aren't feeling well, have bad knees, hips, hearts - and yet don't qualify for a handicap sticker. They may be a pregnant lady in her last trimester, or a mom with young children.
Are there hunky, buff guys who stalk parking places? Are there women who "don't want to get their hair messed up"? Are there a dozen other types of people who drive me crazy in a parking lot - Oh, yea........And, there are the people who whip around parking lots zipping across lanes endangering those driving and walking through the lot. These make me crazy because they're dangerous.
So, please don't condemn all of us who (I prefer the term) "stalk"
parking places. Some of us are just trying to get by.

When people are rude or inconsiderate to me in the parking lot, I take positive action. I wait until they enter the store, and then release a significant amount of air from 1 or 2 tires. Then I whack the drivers door with a shopping cart, enough to cause a dent. That always make me feel much better. Able-bodied people who park in the handicapped spot get a key scratch along the side instead.

I find it ridiculous and annoying. The worst offenders are ALWAYS at WalMart. They will wait 20 minutes for the first spot when they could have parked, walked, and shopped in that amount of time. I always beep at those people for being stupid. Plus, they usually block the aisles, so no one else can move. And, they are usually fat and could use the walk of the extra 30 feet.

Yeah, those vultures are everywhere. Especially at this time of year. It is annoying but sometimes parking is so bad that you really have no other choice. The best thing to do is just to go about your business and leave when you are ready. Don't purposely make them wait but just don't rush either.

There is some good input here to your query and observation on this matter! Hate to be in that percentage that gets involved with someone with a short fuse though! Not only are they the "parking space predators" but they also lack exercise, literally! This is why they go out of their way to get that closest parking spot to the establishment or event. Some of these bigger/larger people need to park further away to get more exercise! But the rest, needless to say, are just so selfish and inconsiderate of others more in need, like elderly people and perhaps women with children! Good query and thanks for the opportunity!

I don't see anything wrong with waiting for a spot that's about to open up. I appreciate it when I can get a spot that's closer to the place I want to go. It seems to me that if people make you wait longer than normal for the space, they're the ones who are causing the holdup.

Yes that is annoying especially when they stop in a middle of a turn to get into that spot. Happened at wal-mart in LeMars Iowa. The old guy getting out waved to the woman to go into the spot. He was out too.

If someone is "vulturing" for my spot as I get into my car, I make them wait a good long time...hopefully until they just go away. I pull out my cell phone and call my husband for a nice long chat.
How am I supposed to even back out if they are hovering so closely trying to take my spot as soon as I vacate it?
Passive aggression makes me feel better sometimes.

I think it is rude of them to block traffic, but it doesn't bother me if someone waits for me to pull out of the spot. As long as they give me enough room and don't honk their horn or make some attempt to rush me I don't care if they sit there. I think they are lazy to not go find another spot.
