Apparently only two doctors in the US currently perform this procedure - one in south Florida (www.vitreousfloaters.com), the other in the Washington DC area (www.eyefloaters.com). These websites would have me believe the scarcity of doctors here is due to the high degree of skill necessary to obliterate the tiny floaters safely and effectively using a potentially very damaging instrument (the laser device). Yet while the safety of this procedure (in experienced hands) seems well documented, it is less clear how genuinely effective the treatment is.

I have had numerous floaters of the "squiggly lines" variety for over a decade. Despite being very nearsighted, my eyes are otherwise healthy. I'm strongly considering a visit to Dr. Karickhoff (the eye doctor in DC), but would be interested to hear from others who have had this procedure, or who know anything about how effective it really is.

my 70 yr old mom just had laser surgery 6 months ago...she is a diabetic, and had pre-glaucoma symptoms. anyway, she'd been experiencing floaters for a few years and the surgery cured it. she said she only felt a bit of stinging during the laser treatment, and she's had no pain or any problems post treatment. hope this was helpful, and good luck to you. oh, and we live in northern calif. she had her sx done across town.

Are you sure this is an eye problem and not a migraine issue? Floaters especially "squiggly lines" are very common to migraine sufferers...and you do not need to get a headach to be having a migraine you can just get the eye symptoms...I do.
