Why do all those who have found, or are dedicated to a religion believe or even assume that the rest of us should follow in your footsteps?

and please don't cut and paste the bible or use quotes from the same place... Answer the question using your own evidence (note the words - your own evidence) of 'God', etc etc.

A very good question and I totally agree with your comments. I was raised as a christian and I have always tried to live a life that helps others when required but my experience over the years (I am in my early 60s) is that those who push their 'gods' are generally those who don't want to help when help is needed and are quick to criticise you when you think or do things they do not agree with. I believe in taking people as they are and do not judge them by their race, religion, or sexuality.

Due to my bad experiences with those who consider themselves religious I no longer believe in it and don't follow any faith other than my own belief in treating others as I would like them to treat me. I particularly found the religious types negative towards me when I came out as being gay some years ago - many of whom had been friends for many years when they didn't know my sexuality. I found it quite amazing. However, I soon found out who were my true friends and those I thought were friends.

The Short Answer: Because it seems to have worked for the parents so why go against that.

The Fuller Answer: the above Plus people enjoy singing in groups and hoping for the best in groups - they lke the social aspect. Plus:

the fact that even though it is unlikely and unproven (and utter BS!), making yourself and your children believe in it anyway may lead to having nicer, more well-behaved children, a reduction in crime (ideally), a place for the poor, desperate and lonely to go for non-competitive friendship (rather than a guilty feeling of having been heartless) and a greater spirit of charity, morals & cooperation.

If we could extract all these things and have more of them without churches, then that would be a grand reform of society, but until then, people will continue doing as they always have done (and having way more children than us nonreligious people).

Also, when you write a long essay for school, aren't YOU pleased when people agree with you and like your work. Aren't you also glad when people think your way of doing something is the best?

It up to you, believe in God, Allah etc or don't. It's up to you learn and find out what you believe to be correct. You can't ask people on the internet, we are all human beings without any divine knowledge (albeit some are more stupid than others)

I don't need to convince you. For me it is enough that Allah is my God and I believe everything the Quran teaches and what my parents have taught me. That's me, some people think Islam is too strict because you can't drink, eat pork (anything from a pig), can't wear revealing clothes etc but for me it is a blessing. Alcohol only brings trouble anyway and so do wearing clothes that show too much flesh.

No one here can give you any kind of answer that will change your mind avout anything, It's up to you to go out there and research everything (if you are serous that is) but something tells me you are asking in a lighthearted kind of way.

I am 42 and was baptised yesterday, I found my belief in God through crisis and the spiritual experiences that occured during that time. I certainly do not expect anyone to follow in my footsteps nor do I preach my beliefs to anyone. Religion can be equally rewarding if kept within your own Christian community. I am a better person for my belief and friends and family comment on the fact.

Here we go again -

"Why do ALL those who have found, or are dedicated to a religion believe or even assume that the rest of us should follow in your footsteps?"

What do you mean ALL. Have you met ALL of the people who have found, or are dedicated to a religion ?

Assuming there is a God that has created the universe, God would be much smater/wiser then we are. We only have a short time to live and by listening to the advice of an all-Knowing, all-Powerful God we have a greater chance of living a life with meaning and purpose.

There is only way into God's heaven. Just use a little common sense. Do you think that my killing infidels will get you into paradise? The Lord Jesus Christ had to leave heaven's glory and become a man so He could die for our sins.He was buried and took our sins away and He rose again the third day for our justification. He is alive. Allah, in time past, was the old sun god that was worshiped by the heathen. Where is his prophet? He is dead in the grave and his soul is in hell. That is where all people go that have rejected what the Lord Jesus Christ did for all that would believe.

Some do - I don't. I discovered the power of my faith and belief in God nearly 20 yars ago when I was at rock bottom. I've never looked back.
By the way - I don't attend any churches nor am I a member of any religious group. Just a personal believe is all you need. Honest.
