How do you potty train a little boy? I have tried sitting him on the pot but he jsut screams and wants to get up. Does the potties with all of the bells and wistles really help more than a normal one?

don't rush him.... it will only take him longer.

I never bothered with a fancy potty.

Make a big deal when he acheieves something.. iE.... just sitting nicely for a few minutes.... for a start.

We always did the potty dance when mine went. Followed by a great BIG hug.

Childen always want to please and make you happy.

Don't get upset with him for not going or having accidents. It will only discourage him and take him longer to get it.

My son, took to it right away. But he didn't like to be dirty. My daughter on the other hand is still giving me grief. She just turned 3 and had just not mastered pooping on the toilet.... Peeing, we are still working on, with slow progress...

You can offer rewards for success.... we used stickers.

patience is the key.

I trained my little guy by really getting excited when I or my husband went potty. Then I would let him run around the house naked after he drank some juice and left the potty out and open. When he went pee I would get excited and say "go to the potty, go to the potty! " He eventually did it and we made a huge fuss. That took a while. I never discouraged him and told him he would do it when he was ready. Sometimes he would do it and other times he wanted his diaper back on. I just followed his lead. I never made a big deal if he wanted it back on. But I always made a big fuss if he showed an interest.

The fancy potties didn't do it for my son. Age is also a factor. Boys and girls both need to have the proper muscle control to go potty.

I also bought him a potty book about a little boy going potty. He loved it!

Best of luck to you.

I have potty trained hundreds of children some take to it with ease but,
potty training can be a very trying for any parent. The first step is to have him accompany you to the bathroom. Don't force him to sit on his potty (this will only make him hate it and rebel). Encourage him. Tell him that that's what big boys do. You can include other things big boys get to do, like ride a bike or help etc...I recommend starting by buying some big boy undies and putting them over his diaper. After he starts getting used to it I HIGHLY recommend ditching day time diapers and no pull-ups. They only encourage accidents and laziness. Also, once he starts using the potty ask him often if he needs to go, and by now you should have a pretty good idea of his "schedule" and place him on the potty around those times. Don't punish him for accidents, but make a big deal of his accomplishments. Oh and teach him to push his penis down so you don't have puddles to clean up.
And no bells and whistles are necessary, most kids like sitting on the big potty.

How old is your little boy? He might be too young to start potty training. I waited until my son showed interest and wanted to be potty trained. He was almost three. In my opinion, it was a lot easier waiting for HIM to want to start the whole process than fighting with him about it. We made a sticker chart together and when he filled it up, he got to pick out a big boy prize.

With my second son, I once again waited until he wanted to be potty trained. He was about 2 1/2 and he wanted some Thomas underwear. I told him they were for big boys that use a potty. That did it for him, and he wanted to start potty training.

Find something that your son wants and make that a goal for him. I know some people don't like to "bribe" their kids, but when all else fails, what are you gonna do?

No the potty chairs don't worry any better then I regular potty. Believe me I bought 3 trying. It really depends on his age. About a week before my little boy turned 3 he started showing an interest in it. Then about a week after he turned 3 he learned. I tried pushing him to learn before that but he just wasnt ready. When he showed an interest in it I tried giving him a dollar or hot wheels everytime he went but he didnt care, then I tried the fruit loops in the toilet and he didnt go for that either. Finally I remember how my 2 brothers and one of my nephews had been trained...OUTSIDE! He loved going outside and using it or even using it in a coffee can because he loved the noise it made. Strange I know but it worked and it was well worth all the trips outside to the back yard. It took him another 3 weeks to get the whole #2 thing down because he hated doing that period. I got to where I finally just had to spank him one day because he would do #2 anywhere and everywhere but in the toilet. After the spanking he's been going every since with no problem. Just make sure your child is ready and don't push them if they aren't because it will make it harder for you when they are ready.

I myself stayed away from all the noisy potty's. It just takes time and patience with any boy or girl. My daughter HATED when I changed her diaper so I never used them again. But getting her to potty train was a real chore. But once she got the hang of it she was always very proud of what she did. Hang in there. Maybe Daddy should be the one to show him HOW its done. Sometimes that helps. If there is no daddy in the picture then just show him the way and hope he isnt too tramatized, lol!!!1

KIds get potty trained at their own pace. If he is screaming then he isnt ready yet. You will do him more harm then good if you force him. But when he is ready make sure you make a HUGE deal about it they love that stuff!

Well first of all how old is he and you should never try to rush that child to use the potty you have to wait until he is ready not you.

I bribed my 3 year old with big boy underwear. The worse thing is watching them pee in the backyard because they won't come in and use the bathroom - and I'm talking about husbands cutting the lawn!

no they don't. Encouragement without pressure will do the trick. Sit in there with him. He is not ready yet.
