Limewire is in NO WAY safe.
Basically you are letting people onto your computer to view your files. I know it's only music files, but it is possible to configure the software to access any part of a computer. EVEN IF YOU HAVE A FIREWALL.
If it's on your computer, get rid of it straight away unless you don't care about people hacking in.

There are no safe P2P sites. All are open to possible trojans, viruses, etc. This is due to the fact you are sharing files with private individuals, some of whom are hackers. This is, in fact, one of the easiest ways to open your system to hackers. And remember, anything you get for free is usually worth about what you paid for it.
However, if you want the real scoop on what is the safest (relatively speaking) way to use P2P, check out the following site.

you may get an outbreak from everywhere. easily that human beings blame Limewire and Frostwire for viruses while it is basically them clicking on viral links. you could receive the two, basically be risk-free and careful of what you receive. It enables to have McAfee or the different risk-free practices utility that detects in case you receive a viral link.

Yes. Make sure you turn off all sharing, though. In the small chance you download a virus, your anti-virus software will catch it, and you can delete it. That's not inconvenient, you could download a virus from anywhere, and people should all have anti-viruses running always.
