If Noah carried two of every animal on the ark, and there is no such thing as evolution, then why is it several hundred species are discovered every year? Given the fact that there are over 7 million different types of species, don't you think the ark would have been a little crowded?

Many people localized flood, but I cannot accept that as an answer. The tradition is that it was a world wide flood, and many links I have been given here also dispute that.

To those who say I haven't done the math, here's a really simple explaination of. Even given the 'micro-species' theory, you still looking at over 43,000 different types of species! Go to this link for the math.

Many religious people don't realize that 99% of every species that has lived on the earth is now extinct. 99%!!! If they would just look at the facts, they would work evolution into their religion.

Sadly you have some mean people answering your question. Don't you hate that? Anyway, I guess they needed to have some animals to sacrifice, and they may have separated the males and females to prevent over crowing. That's what I'd have done. We may not understand their reasoning, but back then I guess it was considered a good thing to sacrifice animals. At least they didn't sacrifice humans. I don't get it either, I mean we live in a world that claims compassion is one of the highest values- higher than the "value" of hunger, at least- but then people go and kill animals to eat them or use their fur. It's hard to figure how to make these two opposing ideas go together in harmony. They seem like opposites. Again, this is a cultural thing that we can't understand easily without being there or studying it in deep books I guess. Personally I find it unnecessary to eat meat three times a day, seven days of every week of the year. That like over 900 meaty meals a year. Why? If we REALLY NEED meat, we ONLY need it once or twice a week- NOT 21 times a week. There is no excuse for that. NONE. It makes your health bad if you eat it all the time. It's neither right nor practical. But I guess they did sacrifices for the few times they were eating the meat, which is really to say that they ate meat less often than we do now... maybe?

Somtimes a new species can start from two different species mating together. This is possible, it isn't possible for all species to mate with each other, like a human could'nt get with a dog and make a new species. But certain animals could mate with a different animal to form a new species. But noah carried those animals over 1000's of year ago those animal could have evolved into different things today.

Noah would not have had to fit all the 'species' of the present post-Flood Earth on the Ark, only male and female representatives of pre-Flood 'kinds.' A 'kind' is a much broader classification term than today's 'species' or 'breed.' In addition, Noah did not have to collect ANY of the animals at all !! In Genesis 6:20, God clearly tells Noah that two (male & female) of every 'kind' "shall come unto thee." From these original 'kinds' of land animals have descended all the present species of their anatomical type, not by means of gradual evolutionary mutations, but by genetic variations already pre-coded for in the DNA of their Creation-Week ancestor. I definitely would recommend 'NOAH'S ARK: A Feasibility Study' (1996) by John Woodmorappe, 298p

I think slickyboy has a good point... and add to that that several 'kinds' Jehovah said to bring not just 'two by two', but 'seven by seven'. Why? Food when the ark set down, as another answerer brought up! There would have been no fresh vegetation for anyone, and until they could plant, there needed to be food added to what they had left. Up until that time, mankind had not been meat eaters. After Noah and his family came out of the ark, Jehovah tells him that man can now eat meat, and He tells Noah how to bleed and prepare it. But this is faith! And faith is belief in something that you have no way of proving.

Micro evolution is a science and a fact.
If two breeds of dogs mate, they can start an new breed of dog.
Same thing for cats, horses, whales, plants, etc.....
In the Bible, 2 or 7 pairs of every kind of animal were taken onto the ark. This means that 2 or 7 pairs of dogs were taken, not of every breed of dog, but of dogs.
Same thing for every other kind of animal.
If two things can breed together and their offspring can keep reproducing like kind of animals then the parents are the same kind of animal.

My feeling is this, the flood only affected the area where there was a population of people, not all over the globe. At the time of the story the immediate area was thought to be the whole world. So it's possible that not all of the world's animals were on the boat, only the ones in the area of Noah.

"7 million different types of species"? WOW! Now just what does that mean. Do you even know?
Noah carried two of every "kind". A kind would be like in the "dog kind family" would include dogs, wolves, dingos and so on . Just one pair would represent this whole famlly.
Have you ever done the math on this? Obviously not.
Do you know how big the ark was?-No.
Do you know how many animals he took? -No.
Do you know their size or weight?- No.

Good question. I'm a Christian who also believes in evolution (How Christians deny evolution is beyond me but anyway...I digress). I believe that Noah did have 2 of each kind of animal, but I don't think the whole world flooded, rather the large area (country?) of the land where Noah lived.
