Do ya'll think the NASCAR Nextel Cup Banquet should be held in New York City? We Southerners have class too. What about Charlotte or Daytona? Besides, majority of the races are in southern states (nothing against northern states) why New York?

It has always been a tradition since the days when the Awards Banquets are held at the Waldorf Astoria, and so I guess since they have the really big banquet rooms in there they feel that it would hold a great ceremony for the Drivers in Nascar to help celebrate what accomplishments they have made. It sounds like a lot of work trying to get everything prepared and it is but also they have Something special going on for the Drivers during the last week or two in the season where all the driver make numerous appearences on talk shows or other events , so that would be my guess why they always have the Awards Banquet held in New York City.

Nascar realized way back when that if the sport is going to gain more respect, they have to branch out away from the redneck image. Going to New York City gives Nascar a global stage to be noticed from. NYC is hooked into everything and gives Nascar a shot in the public relations arm. People all over the world know about NYC, but I wonder how many people in Greece know about Charlotte, NC or Daytona, Fl.

They should stop having these banquets in New York, and they should move it to Daytona or Charlotte.
