In simple terms. 666 represents the number of the beast. It probably wont be the actual numbers 666 but will probably have its basis from 666. Maybe a chip inserted to ones body with the serial number 060606 or made on the 6 day 6 month of the 06 year. One will not be able to do anything in society unless he has this "mark". No shopping or traveling. Anyone not accepting the mark will be persecuted.
The beast is the anti-Christ and that's basically going to be a powerful leader both in religion and politics. He or She is not going to have an sweater embrodered with an anti-christ slogan. He or she will be nothing close to an anti-christ to those who are deceived by it. It will be a hero to many and saviour to others. I could say a lot more but I'm trying to keep in simple here but it is a complex discussion.

The mythology of 666 is called gematria. This means Jewish numerology, or the mystical qualities of numbers.

The most recent pop culture example is the book The Bible Code. Notice how most slot machines have three lucky 7s. There are many, many instances of lucky and unlucky numbers. Basically 6's in gematria mean incompleteness. Sevens mean complete, the best, the highest, so 777 would be the luckiest number, and 666 the unluckiest. Three is a mystical number of luck and completeness, as is 1. So 111 and 333 would be lucky, luckier, and 777 would be luckiest.

So three sixes means the most incomplete, the worst. People who don't know anything about gematria twisted it over the past 5,000 years or so into something evil, which it isn't. It's another belief system with mysticism built in, and it has NOTHING to do with evil.

In simple term, it is the reverse of 999. The teachings in the Old Testaments stand for a 999 near perfect Law. Then, a man came to reverse most of that laws that becomes so appealing that people thought it was the truth so they all followed him and many fell victims to the deception. If you reverse the 999, it becomes 666. Remember the beast that came out of the earth. one of its heads HAS A FATAL WOUNDS THAT WAS HEALED. If you think you can find the man in the Bible that nearly died because of the wounds and came back to life again then you are one who have the ears to hear and surely you have the insight.

I missed a bit - when I read that your numbers corresponded to Bible chapter numbers, I stopped. The chapters and verses we know today are entirely arbitrary. They were mostly done by a monk on his way (from France to Spain, if memory serves), and to pass the time, he divided up the Bible into chapters and verses. He didn't do a bad job, but there several places where the chapter breaks are in the wrong places, and many of the verses have no cohesion to them as well. Still, we have been using the system since, but it is not all that old at all. So, anything "big" that relies on some modern, arbitrary numbering system cannot be real. Sorry about that!

it's basically the number that means that you a worshiper of the devil or his offspring. if you are familiar with the bible you might want to take a look at the book of daniel and ezekiel and revelation and you may want to consider reading the whole bible just to get a holistic veiw on it. what you'll find is basically that in ezekiel that a marking of israel went on durng that time period and it basically meant that you were going to get destroyed because israel wasn't living according to the standard on which they agreed to live with. and the whole 666 thing is simlar to that because it is a mark that means that you aren't living according to the standards of God and that your fate is destruction if you keep living according to evil. so when people say that you dial 666 on the phone you get the devil but that is not true. but what it is infact is the mark of the beast or devil and you are on the devil's side. the funny thing about this mark is that it's invisible and you may not know weather or not you have this mark.
