If you are not menstruating, then you are probably not ovulating. (i.e releasing eggcells). monthly. No ovules no conception. There is nothing to fertilise.Menstruation occurs whne then the specialised uterine lining that is m9onthly constructed in order to await and take in the fertilised egg, which then becomes an embry and placenta. If the egg cell does not embed the layer is discarded and the matter is expelled in the phenomenon called menstruation.
You should go for a thorough gynchologist's examination to determine why you are not menstruating (having periods).
One of the most common reasons after menopause is too little body fat per body mass. (in other words the patirent is too lean). This happens to many female athletes who train vigourously, have much muscle mass and very little body fat. A break in training usually restarts menstruation.

You should not have let yourself go this long without a period and getting it checked out. What did your doctor say about this when you mentioned it at all of your yearly physicals? If the doc never looked into why you weren't having a period all this time I would definately get a new doc. Get this checked out ASAP as there is no way to know if you will ever have kids or not until you find out what is causing your periods to stop. You have already let it go way to long so call the doc and get an appointment set up. Also as I already said since your doc never addressed this when you had your yearly physicals I would consider a new doc.

just b/c you don't get your period doesn't mean you can't have kids. The blood comes from your uterus shedding the lining every month when there is no baby. You can still release eggs and they can still be fertilized and grow in your uterus. I would see the OB/GYN though about the not bleeding thing. You could have endormetriosis, when the dead lining you are supposed to shed accumulated inside your body, usually just under the uterus. Could turn into a serious problem.

I am surprised that you have put this qestion under diet and fitness which suggests to me that perhap you have had a sudden weight loss or gain which would explain loss of monthly periods.

I lost mine for 4 years due to anorexia, make sure you get checked out by the doc

much love

it depends why you lost your period to begin with. you wont be able to have kids til you get it back, but thats not saying that you should have sex because you could get it back at anytime. you should really see a dr to determine why you are not getting it anymore.
