Yeah... A tortilla wrap only has about 85 calories...which is much less than a white slice of bread.

Perhaps it's because they don't include the new type of accelerated yeasts which the large bakeries use these days to speed up bread production.

I'm not so sure that tortillas are any healthier to eat than bread though. When I had to knock out yeast, I moved on to tortillas but they didn't agree with me either. Somehow, a pack got left in a frig I hardly use and I ran across it 4 months later. The tortillas were still in perfect condition. I dread to think how much preservative must they put in them to achieve such a long life.

Maybe it would be better just to buy bread made with traditional ingredients from the small independent type of bakery shops.

It depends on how much exercise a person does all day, how bad a tortilla wrap is for them vs a sandwich. If they do lots of hard heavy physical labour, then they are going to need more calories, and then the tortilla would be badder than the bread.

"whole-meal"? I guess they meant whole corn -- that's like "whole wheat". Nice, but not that great. Large tortilla wraps have just as many calories as 2 slices of bread. I don't know what your friend is talking about. Anybody who says they have fewer calories or carbs hasn't looked at the back of the package. They probably see that it's thin compared to bread and think "less", but it's not true.

Also, it's been said that it might not be healthy for white people to be eating corn. It's relatively new to them, evolutionarily speaking.

They are both as bad as each other. You'd be better off trading them for rice-crackers! Although they're not so good with chili con carne!
