I think there is a line and vanity plays a big part when that line is crossed- YES.

I have always hated the phrase "I deserve better"

I think your wrong. too much of anything can be bad. everyone needs something to relax them sometimes. The need for a vacation is pampering yourself but if you didn't then you would get burnt out and not be much good to anybody. In the same breath if your married to someone that's broke and you don't but your spending all of his or her money on a vacation that they can't enjoy because they still have to figure out how to pay your bills then yes that's selfish and vain. There are yes and no answers to this question because the question is unique to an individuals situation

Neither. First of all, try not seeing the world in terms of black or white, right or wrong. Understand that there are many ways of seeing the world, many ways of living, many answers.

Taking care of yourself is natural. So is pampering yourself. There's nothing wrong or right about either of these things. There's a lot to be said for positive selfishness, which means taking and making time for yourself, doing what you like to do, having hobbies and interests.

A lot of people think that all selfishness is bad and wrong, but it's not. There has to be some selfishness for us to survive and thrive. You cannot constantly give of yourself to others, and no one expects you to. If you do constantly give of yourself to others and take no time for yourself, don't have any hobbies or interests, you become empty, and soon enough, resentful.

As always, use your common sense. Too much selfishness is unhealthy; too much giving of yourself is unhealthy. It's better to balance everything in life. That's common sense, and it's healthy. Life is give and take.

I'd encourage you to see more broadly and more deeply, and to consider more than just one answer and one point of view.

Cheers, K

I don't agree. We all need to be pampered occasionally. Life is damn hard, it is nice to reward ourselves every once in a while.

It is selfish and vain to expect to be pampered all the time. I do not believe that most people are that way.

Pampering oneself is fine occasionally. But it can lead to excessive sloth.
