My elder sister keeps on borrowing money from me. How can I stop her... I cant bear to see her having problems but I want her to be self-reliant too... what shall I do... she has family of her own alredy... she has no job... the husband is studying...

=as nice as you are you are not helping her you are enabling her so you have to put your foot down and stop giving her money.. She needs to get at least a part time job and stop taking advantage of you. Where is the incentive for her to work if you keep "loaning her money? She has a husband and he should be supporting his family instead f burying his head in a book. He could work part-time as well. There are also grants he could apply for at his school.Motivation is the key here. She should tell him to get his nose out of the book and go to the financial aid office at his school and get some information. Good luck

Sit her down and be honest with her. Be gentle but explain to her that even though you want to be able to assist her financially you have your own financial responsibilities. You are not helping her to be self reliant if you keep bailing her out. If you really could not bear to see her having financial problems you would teach her what you know so that it wouldn't repeat itself.

What are you giving her money for? Is it for food, rent, heat? Or extracurricular? First of all, if its not essential, don't give it. Second, try to help her create a resume, find a job, reduce costs, and become self-reliant. SElf esteem, pride is a big part of it; she needs to fell proud to take care of ehr own family.
