I had my ears pierced (Again after 15 years) 2 months ago and one ear is just not healing. I have been putting the ear antiseptic on 4-5 times a day. It is not red and swollen, but a little sore and there is a tiny bit of discharge. HELP!

Hey there...here's some things that me and my piercing obsessed friends do to help ourselves heal quicker and keep away infection:

1. Wash the piercing in the shower with a mild cleanser (like Cetaphil or generic Cetaphil, like Equate).

2. Mix together about a spoonful of salt into a cup if warm water. Soak the piercing in it, or dip a cotton ball in it and apply it to the piercing. The mixture should be as salty as tears.

3. Clean the piercing with a non-alcoholic mouthwash, ie Tom's of Main or whatever, just as long as it is non-alcoholic, as the alcohol can slow down the healing process.

4. Don't use peroxide unless you are starting to get a bad infection, because it will majorly slow down healing. It will kill germs but it is bad for the healing process.

5. You can also use saline soloution-the stuff they use to put in contact lense cases. It's really cheap.

6. Witch Hazel is a non alcholic antiseptic that works better than peroxide. It;s very gentle and makes you feel nice.

Hope that helped!

Try dipping your ear in salt water. It'll probably sting some, but the salt will help the ear heal. A lot of piercing places recommend this.
