Even spring water which tastes fine at first develops a bitter-chemical like taste after sitting in my fridge for as little as 3 days. Anybody ever experience it? What would be the cause and solution?

The water is always covered, either in a closed polands springs jug, or a covered brita filter container

Water and eggs (sounds crazy I know) absorb the smells and tastes around it and because water is flavourless the foul flavour is more obvious, the best thing to do is put the water in a covered glass jug and keep your food containers covered or in covered tupperware. also keep cut onions tightly sealed as well as garlic and give the fridge a good clean out with disinfectant and keep baking powder in the fridge to absorbe the nasty smells.

Water Container For Fridge

This might be a difficult one to answer. It could just be that the chilling of the water brings out something in the taste that you don't detect when you drink it at normal temperature. Have you t ried taking it out of the fridge and just leaving it to warm up a bit to room temperature and see if that "taste" is still there. If it's not, then it would seem to be the effects of the cold (although I haven't ever noticed that myself)
It's also true that people's own tastebuds can be quite different, in exactly the same way some people's hearing is more sensitive than others, and people's skin sensitivity can be more or less acute than others. I would have suggested having your tap water analyzed but since you say it's the same with your Spring Water, I think the cause has to be somewhere else other than in the water itself.

You said the fridge and filter are new. This could be part of the problem. Try running a gallon or so of water through. The taste should improve. You'll be removing any loose filter particles and any flavors leached from the plastic water supply line.

You should try putting a box of baking soda in your fridge (after you scrub your entire fridge/freezer out with baking soda mixed with warm water). It sounds like the water is picking up some odors from other foods in your fridge.

Good luck!

The water absorbs the flavors of the other foods becasue it doesn't have a flavor of its own. Maybe try keeping it in a tightly closed container. And if you don't have baking soda in your fridge, I know that it helps absorb stray odors so they don't get in the other foods.

Is it being kept tightly closed in the fridge? Sound like something is flavoring it!

other food smells/tastes are getting into it! never put something in the fridge w/o covering it, it's just not safe.

Once you open the seal, the air gets in and begins to contaminate it.

Use boxes of baking soda...(it helps a little) and try to use it as you open it.
