My son is potty-training. The worst time is when we are traveling and he wets in his carseat. Those things are such a pain to wash!! Sometimes it even leaks through onto the seat of the car and than all is lost, yuck haha. Any tips for these instances? So far I have made sure he goes potty before, and put a plastic bag under the carseat for extra protection. Anyone have any better ideas? Thank you in advance!

When my daughter was potty-training, I used a tablecloth under her seat. I got a small, flannel-backed, vinyl tablecloth from Walmart. I took her carseat out of the car, and measured the tablecloth to fit the contours of her seat. I made sure that it would fit (and tuck in) to the sides and top of the seat, and cut holes where the seatbelt parts connect or come out of the seat. If you put it so that the flannel back is resting on the seat, then the vinyl won't slip around. The vinyl is water-resistant, so the carseat won't get wet, and you don't have to try to change it. It worked every time!

They sell a special carseat pad for that purpose. It probably works better than a plastic bag. Another thing I've done with my daughter is put a lap pad down on the seat part with a flat cloth diaper on top. Works for the stroller, too. We've only ever had one carseat accident, though.

long car trips use pull ups this will save on washing the seat every day. my son is almost 4 and still wears a pull up when out for long periods with no potty close by just in case and so far no accidents

I saw these things at babies r us a couple weeks ago that are made especially for your problem. its a waterproof seat cover for the car seat. it fits in perfectly so it would be easier than plastic bags i think. i just looked and i can't find it on their website- sorry! but i'm thinking if you got one of those it would work out the best for you. I wouldn't suggest pull ups or diapers since it could actually set your son back in his potty training process. other than that just make sure he goes before hand, stop a few times, and bring extra clothes! he'll get the hang of it soon i'm sure! good luck!

oh just found it- its called a piddle pad...

Beside taking him potty before and after he is out of the seat, you need to put on a diaper or pull up. Remove it as soon as you get to your destination, take him potty. Kids often say they don't have to go, and they do. Children have small bladders, they can't wait or hold it as some adults do.

Have you son go to the bathroom before you leave and have a pull-up on him that way if he has an accident it won't get the carseat dirty.

I would probably say that it is best that you wold wait to travel because I takes approximately about 8months of consistent potty training down before he is ready and take then to the potty before you leave and avoid long trips anywhere.

If he is old enough for you to be potty-training he should be old enough to say "Potty" or "Pee-Pee". If you know that you will be going out put a pull up on him.

Perhaps he should wear pull ups or diapers on car trips, to prevent accidents.

When they are training, they need to wear pull-ups when out of the home.
