My parents have a 1 1/2 year old yellow lab. Recently, she has been acting very weird. Sometimes, she will not come into the kitchen and whine and cry because we are in there. Her back paws will not leave the living room carpet leading into the kitchen. Could it be her eyesight or ghosts? We do believe there is a ghost in our house...my mother has actually felt someone poke her before and no one was there. My mom has tried once telling the ghost to go back in the basement and to leave the dog alone, and then the dog did come into the kitchen, but this hasn't worked recently. Any ideas?

The dog probably does'nt like the slippery kitchen floor. An easy test would be to get some carpet runners and put them down in the kitchen and see if she'll come in.

I totally believe animals can be more perceptive to this stuff than us humans...but I would enquire as to any harsh dicipline or accidents that may have happened in the kitchen.

In my old apartment we had a ghost cat actually, some times you would see the shadowy thing scitter across the floor, or you could hear purring when all our cats were in the other room. My three kitties had a great time chasing the invisible cat and playing with it.

We also had one room in that apartment that none of my cats ever wanted to go into. I myself would refuse to have the bed in that room because my dreams were always odd and very violent when I slept in that room...weird stuff like the lights going on, my alarm clock changing times...etc...the cats knew.......

Now in my new house, the cats all do not want to go upstairs(its essentially just an attic). My boyfriend has often times sworn he's heard someone walking around up there, but of course there is not...the cats know about this too.

Just the other day I found my puppy (who cannot navigate the stairs yet) standing staring up at the attic and growling..(he is NOT normally a growler).

So yah...I would support your ghost theroy...but I couldn't tell you what to do about it...my experiences have never been negative enough to warrant action.

I agree with the people who think the dog doesn't like the hard floor, esp. since you said she stops at the edge of the carpet.

Do you live somewhere where the kitchen floor is currently cold a/o drafty? I know our 1yo "rhogle" will only go in the kitchen when he needs to b/c it is chillier than the carpeted rooms.

That said, we live near, and walk him past a cemetery. Most days, it's not an issue, but one day, with no people or animals around, he locked into SOMETHING and barked up a blue streak. So, yes, I think dogs can sense spirits.

Try to rule out the abuse or sickness theories, obviously. Best to protect the pooch OR the family member who needs a checkup!

That's strange....I do believe in ghosts, so I think your theory is plausible. But just to play devil's advocate, is there someone in the house who might have disciplined the dog severely for getting into something in the kitchen? That may be the reason the dog won't go into the room, especially if that person is in the kitchen when the dog is called.

try getting a dog whisperer. if you do, don't tell them anything except that the dog is acting strangely, and maybe that she won't come in the kitchen. some dog whisperers will try to pull information out of you without you even realizing it. you could also try a medium who comes to your house to connect with the ghost or spirit in your house. the dog could also be sick, or it could be telling you that there is a gas leak or something else wrong with the kitchen. dogs are very sensitive to smell, taste, sight, our emotions, etc.

Hi I have a choc lab and he is 12 years old. He has problems walking on the floors and I have runners all over my house so he don't slide. I'd try doing that and see if it is scared to walk on the floors. Has your baby always done this or is it just recently? My labs nails are long and that doesn't help. I try to clip them every week to get them shorter. That may be the problem and he knows you all are out there and cries because he is afraid to come out. Good luck

I don't really believe in ghosts because they aren't very nice things to believe in, but perhaps the dog knows something about someone in the room that they don't know of? They can sense anything. I only hope no one has cancer. Good luck.

I think you're probably right. If you believe there is a ghost in the house it is entirely possible that your dog is sensing this entity.

When it comes to snoring, dogs are like humans. Some snore and some don't.

you need an old priest and a young priest----
sounds like the dog has been punished or shooed out of the kitchen too many times
