The puppies will need to be 8 weeks old before they go to their new homes.A good quality food is a must. Stay away from foods such as Science Diet, IAMS/Eukanuba, Pedigree, Purina puppy/dog Chow..these foods contain loads of cheap fillers...corn, wheat, soy, beet pulp, by products...look for foods such as Wellness, Solid Gold, Canidae, Natural balance, California Natural, Chicken Soup For The Puppy Lover's Soul,Fromm, Blue buffalo..just to name a few. These foods contain meat proteins which dogs/puppies needs and don't have all the cheap fillers (which dogs/puppies don't need).
The more meat protein in a food the better and more usable the nutrition in the food and the less you will need to feed and the healthier your dogs will be.

Chicken Soup is actaully a good dog food at a great price. I have fed my dog's that for awhile until we moved and I cannot find any retailers around here that sell it. But if you have to cut back, I would go with them. I think when I bought it, it evened out to about $1 per pound of food. And don't stress, everyone is feeling the money crunch right now. I am currently paying off Hospital Bills and have had to cut the dog's food to Pedigree for a few weeks until I get these paid off.

There are so many "pet foods" to choose from it becomes almost impossible to make an informed decision as to what is best for your pet (in this case, your dogs). In my case... I have two dogs, both female, one Samoyed and one 1/2 Chow 1/2 Samoyed, one's "jet" black and the other is "snow" white, they are really something to see; sorry, it's hard not to try to show off my "girs". Anyway, gender of the pet doesn't really matter, although, how active your pets are matters when deciding how often and how much to feed them. I used to feed my dogs Pedigree. I'd mix the "dry and canned food together, and thought that I was giving them all the protien and nutrients they needed to be healthy and strong. When my "Sammy" got sick (cancer) when she was about seven years old, we thought we were going to lose her. Our vet recommended, after the surgery to remove her tumor, that we switch her food to "Science Diet", stating that it had less preservatives and unnatural additives that are dangerous to animals and can shorten their life span considerably. We tried it. The girls didn't like it. We tried other, "all natural" dog foods. I read all of the ingredients in all the foods on the market, they all have unnatural additives and things that are not good for your pets. Bottom line; I started feeding both my dogs steamed rice with cooked, boneless, skinless chicken breasts and peas and carrots (frozen vegetable section). My dogs life expectancy, even with successful surgery was only about a year. It's been over two years now and (knock on wood) she's still cancer free and looks and feels better than she did when she was younger. (both my dogs are over nine years old) Lately, I've substituted chunk white tuna in water(one can each) in lieu of the chicken, but the point is... store bought pet food will never provide them with the protein, vitamins and minerals that they can get from "people food". My "vet" and dog groomer have both said that there is truly no substitute for truly all natural food and if, as you say, money is not a concern, the best way, the "only" way to go, is with real meat and vegetables. (red meat is okay, once in a while but not all the time)and never give your dog real bones. They can splinter and damage their stomach and intestines or they can choke on them or damage their throat as well. Chicken or tuna with peas and carrots and steamed rice has given my "girls" a new "lease on life". They have more energy and are overall much happier dogs than when they were on the "store bought stuff". Nikita (the one that had cancer) would not be here today if I hadn't moved away from store bought dog food (even the all natural kinds). I hope you find this helpful.

i just got my puppy a little over two weeks ago and when i took him in to get his first check up, the vet asked what kind of food i was feeding him. I am feeding him Royal Canin. the vet said that is the best food because each bag of food (besides starting out with the puppy food) is for a different type of dog. Like I have a chihuahua that is five months old and right now he is eating the puppy food for small dogs, but once he gets to be eight months old I'm supposed to switch over to the bag of food made specifically for chihuahuas. Start out with the puppy food then you will find the bag you need by looking for the picture of your dog on the front of it. This food is good for your dog because it has the nutrients that your type of dog needs.

I use Nutro food for my whole crew (3 dogs and 3 cats). I use to feed other foods, but my shepherd wasa getting sick on all others so a breeder I talked to told me to try Nutro Lrg. Breed and it work no more getting sick so I put everybody on it. There is no corn fillers and they use only the meat you would eat no guts in it, and the price isn't bad either. Since they have all good protein there is less shedding and smaller poop in the backyard. If you give it a try and don't like it there is a 100% gaurentee on the back bring it back to the store. It will take a week to see signs of smaller poop and six weeks for coat signs since it take that long for a new coat to grow in. I would recommend the Lrg. Breed for you too, it is a blue bag with a german shepherd on the front. I pay $30.00 for a 40lb. bag and that will last one dog one month.

nutro is good, wellness is good--these are around $30-40 for a 40 lb. bag and nutro is available at petsmart. look for foods with high protein and avoid ingredients such as chicken or poultry by-product (basically, this means "beaks and feet") and corn--these have no nutritional value for your dog. purina beneful is the worst--i wouldn't even feed that to a dog i hated.

we have a black lab and have used nutro natural choice since we got her and we've been happy with it. good weight, good health, etc.

Eukanuba is the best you can feed your dogs. It's one of the only ones that doesn't use corn in the first 3 ingredients as a filler. It also boasts the highest percentage of crude protein of any dog food and this is great for maintaining good health and life long development. Comes in many kinds like puppy-small bite, puppy-large bite, adolescents, adult, senior, and weight management. All with the same great formula. Is available only at places like PetSmart and vet offices.

I recommend Nutro natural choice. GREAT food. I feed the lamb and rice which is wheat free. Be sure to stay away from "grocery store brands".

Well ,I hope you have their mother if they're only 2 days old.She will feed them for the first 4-5 weeks, then you can get dry puppy food and soak it in milk or can food.I like Pro Plan or Eukanuba brand food, they don't have corn fillers in them.
