It depends on the reason for your glasses. If you are simply nearsighted or farsighted, they offer myopic lasik surgeries to correct this, thus, eliminating glasses. If your problem is more severe, chances are you may need them for life.

It all depends on WHY you wear glasses. You could be far-sighted, near-sighted, have astigmatism, lazy eye, or a muscle imbalance.

All of them have a different course when you're talking about glasses. I'm guessing you are near-sighted or have astigmatism, and that would mean that you are likely looking at having correction for a LONG time.

Also--there are non-surgical options for fixing your blurred vision. One in particular involves sleeping in hard contacts. It's cheaper than LASIK, and it's reversible unlike surgical options. Another benefit--you don't have to wait until your 20's to get it done (as you do with LASIK). I have 10 year old patients doing this. It's called CRT (corneal refractive therapy).

Glasses are required for many eye conditions. There are glasses to correct distance and this is lifelong unless you have surgery. There are glasses for reading and this is also life long and generally requires periodic increases in strength. People also have degrees of astigmatism and yes this also requires glasses life long in the absence of surgery. Surgery corrects most eye problems and is becoming affordable. I am pleased that glasses exist I rely upon mine continually.

My husband wore glasses as a child for being nearsighted. He now doesnt have to wear them. He wore them from about age 7-11 and his eyes fixed themselves somehow. They arent sure why. But chances are if you wear glasses you will always need glasses or contacts unless you have surgery

People's eyes generally become more long-sighted as they age, wihch is why most old people begin to need glasses.
If you are short-sighted in your youth and need to wear glasses, there is a chance that as your eyes age and become more long-sighted, the long/short-sightedness cancel each other out and you may find that at some point you no longer need glasses. But then in the end you may need them again for long-sightedness

That will depend on the faultness of the vision and its reason why you will have to wear glasses. You can talk to your doctor and ask you could be at risk for Laser Surgery.
