Yes, I cook fish in the microwave.
It will depend on the size of fish and power of microwave suggest try for 1 minute, then every 30 seconds or so. Test in the middle with a sharp pointed knife, just prize it apart a little, to make sure it is a solid colour and does not look raw.
Most white fish like cod or haddock will be mild, or salmon is nice. Tuna is ok but tends to be dry.

You can cook fish in the microwave. It tends to break up, but it's cooked.
Cooking requires two things. You need to heat up the food and you need to keep it at that temperature. These cause different changes to the food. Microwaving is a fast way of heating food, but it's not much use at keeping it hot. Steaming is a much slower process, but it's much better at keeping food hot. You can't steam food in a microwave and you can't microwave food in a steamer.
If you want to steam fish, put it in a metal sieve over a saucepan of boiling water, with a lid on top. A purpose made steamer looks better and will take bigger lumps of fish, but it only does the same job.

You can't "steam" fish in a microwave. Those microwaves are cooking anything that contains water that is in the oven. If you wrap the fish in a 'microwave safe` plastic wrap or you might get a better result.

Its not recommended but if you have to place on a plate with a touch of water. cover with cling film tight. cook according to size. Just check it to see it is not raw in the middle. Try 30 seconds at a time and keep checking. The second time you do it you will know how long it takes. Each fish is different so experiment. Try cod, haddock, plaice These are light. Then there is salmon, trout. The strong flavored ones are swordfish, tuna, marlin

I used to work in a fish market so I've tried many things with fish. Cooking fish in the microwave is disgusting. I find cooking fish in the oven is the greatest, but pan frying isn't bad either. You know when your fish is done when it flakes. Some people like thier fish a bit rare in the middle. I don't like it over done, too dry. A really good fish is Spring Salmon, it's one of the milder salmons and it is very abundant in Omega 3 fatty acids. One of my favorite recipies is with Sockeye Salmon. I marinade it in whiskey, soy sauce, maple syrup, brown sugar and green onions. It's wonderful, I brought it to a potluck once and it was devoured in a matter of seconds. If you like crab and shrimp, try stuffing it in Spring Salmon and top it off with brie cheese. Halibut is a mild fish too, that is good with a dill dijon sauce. Yummy! I'm hungry for fish now. There is no set time to cook fish, it all depends on the weight and thickness. You just know when it easily flakes.

I personally won't- thing come out nasty in the microwave and fish doesn't sound good. Vegetables always come out gross from the microwave when you try and steam them. I would just fry it or sear it on the stove.
You could also bake it in the oven.

cod is lovely done in the micro, just put it on a plate lay a sheet of kitchen roll over it and put it on for 2 minutes let it rest for 1 min then put it on for another 2 mins and it should be nice and tender, you can tell when its cooked by just taking a little bit of it from the middle and if its hot in the centre and has gone a milky colour its done, enjoy !!!!
