For one thing, the rise of Nazism and WW2 many not have happened. The depression was bad in the USA, it was just as bad, perhaps worse, in Germany and Europe. This was futile ground for people to get behind a powerful leader like Hitler(because he got things done) and antisemitism (a scapegoat). The same is true of the rise of Mussolini in Italy and Franco in Spain.
