Is Celebrex A Narcotic

The word for narcotic is from the root word narco which implies sleep. Opioids (pain medications) are often mistakenly referred to as narcotics. Celecoxib (Celebrex) is a non steroidal anti inflammatory medication similar to aspirin and ibuprofen so it is not an opioid (not a 'narcotic'). The manufacturer states that celecoxib has advantages over aspirin and ibuprofen but such advantages are small if they exist at all.

No...celebrex is not a narcotic. It is an NSAID...anti-inflammatory steroid used mostly for the treatment of arthritis...similar to ALEVE.

I have been on celebrex for about a year and have voiced my concerns with my Doctor. He has told me if I do not have a history of heart disease in my family I should be fine. I guess I have tried to go off the medication and I feel terrible. I think my quality of life now while I am (young) is worth it. I would be talking so much ibuprofen that I would have stomach ulcers or something as bad with other pain relievers.
