How often and how persistent are they? In the case of a true migraine, triptans are generally well tolerated. However; the cost of a single dose of Relpax is around $10 per tablet. I would advise you against taking a narcotic for a headache, as this often compounds the situation by causing a "rebound" headache. It's up to you what you should do, but keep in mind there are different types of headaches. A tension headache, a migraine, cluster headaches, sinus headaches, etc, etc. A little more information would be useful to help you out a little better.

Headaches are the most common of the clinical complaints and it is a symptom of a disease rather than being a disease itself.

You will need to make a note of the following before visiting your physician the next time:

Number of attacks per month
Length of time per attack
Pain characteristics (like throbbing, pricking etc)
Part where it pains (one sided, or near the temples or in the front or the back)
Accompanying symptoms (like vomiting, or nausea or seeing bright spots in front of the eyes)

Headaches have a wide variety of causes, ranging from eyestrain, sinusitis and tension and migraine (one sided headache) to life-threatening conditions such as encephalitis, meningitis, cerebral aneurysms and brain tumors.

When the headache occurs in conjunction with a head injury the cause is usually quite evident; however, many causes are more unclear.

The most common type of headache is a tension headache. The other commonest type of headache is due to dehydration. The body gets dehydrated whenever you arent consuming enough of fluids. So an adequate intake of fluids is necessary. Usually about 2-3 liters of water apart from your meal times is the right amount to consume water.

Excess of coffee too can cause headache because of a condition called as caffeine withdrawal, so limit your intake of tea or coffee to about 2 times a day.

Treatment of uncomplicated headache is usually symptomatic with over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol but if it is going to be something like a migraine, then you will need specialised medicines.

You might need certain basic blood tests and if they are normal possibly a CT scan of the head to rule out any underlying pathology and for this you might need to contact your GP.

Hope that helps

Go to WebMd and figure out what type of headache you are suffering from.

When you get a headache, write down how much sleep you had the night before, what you drank and what you eat. Look for a pattern.

For example, I've noticed my some headaches go away if I start drinking tons more water. I've also learned to avoid cheese and cut way back on my caffeine intake.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

You may want to call your doctor. Headaches may be a sign that something is wrong.
You can try Head On, I know the commercial is annoying but it does work. You can get it at the local drugstore.
Theres also pain relievers, like Excedrin, Advil, Tylenol....they might help.

You might have migranes, in which case they might prescribe you codeine...codeine is the best...no more headaches, plus the most insane trips ever, it's a miracle drug. It's like acid, heroin, speed, and XTC and Ketamine all mixed together. Makes me miss it just thinking about it...

Anyway...of you don't really want to get high, then ask for something that isn't codeine...
