There are many resources for genealogy now available, through local records offices and the internet. I would start by asking questions of family members about older generations. I would also ask yourself some questions about why you want to find this out and what you'll do with the unpredictable information that you discover. Are you hoping to get on a band roll? Do you have a romantic vision of what being mixed race or part-Indian might mean? Do you have any friends who are mixed race, part-Indian or Indian? How might your family react to learning more about their history?

do your family history the only way to find out is to trace your family back and then check the rolls to see if one of your ancestors were on the indian roll. there are many people who may be indian but because their ancestor did not sign up on the roll their descendant is not able to prove it up. Dna testing will tell you if you have indian blood but even with that if you want to prove that you are a indian you still have to do you genealogy good luck and happy hunting

If you are able to afford one, a DNA study may help. There are websites that describe the Y and MtDNA studies and how they connect to the particular people. You may want to look into that.

www.familytreedna.com, healthanddna.com, and others just do a search.

That will give you an answer about your heritage that the written record may not be able to give you.

Good luck. (Don't forget to check the written sources as well.)
