I agree! If you are going to live in this country and soak up all of the freedoms that she provides you, you should get up off your a$$ and do something to protect her.

/Signed! One of the 20th century's most prolific Science Fiction writer, Robert A Heinlein was a very vocal believer in this concept. In his book Starship Troopers , he spoke of a society where to own property or a business, or to vote, one must complete a term of service to the government. His belief was that all people have an obligation to the body politic. Of course, the children of the wealthy will find a way to fall through the cracks...big news flash there (not). But I agree. Our freedom has always had a cost. No difference now.

No it wouldn't. Where would that leave people in my situation? I have a 6 month old daughter and my husband is already serving! He's at basic right now and with this new push from the Democrats, looks like he'll be going to Iraq next year. Are you going to tell me that now *I* need to serve? I don't think so. I've got enough to deal with. Guess what? There are some people who just aren't out for that life. The military should be a choice as it was for my husband. You will be much happier with a military that volunteers than one that is drafted. (Think Vietnam...Korea (even though it was techinically successful)) Are you in the service?

I know personally, if I was drafted I'd rather face jail than war!

Hopefully this country won't stoop down to drafting women too some day.

Most 'war supporters' have already served a tour in Iraq. Or already served in the military.

And it would not make any difference - even still the only people who would feel you are worth defending are those conservatives you hate. People who agree with your politics tend not to feel that you and your freedoms have any value.

I'd rather see them draft the kids to clean bathrooms in Grand Central Station.

A better place by denying us our right to individual liberty? I beg to differ. I don't think the Dems have any intention of actually pushing this to fruition since most of their base is anti-war. I think they are simply using it as a tool to try and stir up more anti-war sentiment among people who are more or less on the fence and get them to move into the anti-war camp.

supporters of the war,be them republican or democrat, will answer the call if the draft is reinstated. only cowards will flee.

I wouldn't go anywhere. Our country isn't in any real danger. If it was, I'd enlist. If I ever get drafted it's because I don't agree with the war enough to enlist. In that case, I'd sit on my porch with a rifle and shoot the MPs who came to arrest me for draft dodging. I'd rather die at home fighting a tyranical government than in some imperialistic war half way around the world.

Probably. A lot people who support the war would change their mind if they or their children were drafted.
