Very good reasons apply! Puppies learn a lot from their mothers, just as almost all animals, including humans.
I f the mother is shy, timid, aggressive, she will pass on this behaviour to her pups. Ideally the sire should also be able to interact with the pups, also any other dogs in the household. And of course, a lot of human interaction is also extremely important if the pup is to become a well adjusted social pet, capable of understanding both dog and human language

Breeder A sounds like an excellent breeder, I for personal reason will not take puppies unless I can get them at 8 weeks. If I want an older pup, I will usually go thru breed rescue or adopt from a shelter. I would never ever think of B with the term Breeder, but as a Puppy Miller and a very cruel person. So would not financially support them.

It is very important that if you are buying a puppy from a breeder, ask to see the mother dog! If you don't then you may not know what sort of temperment the puppies will have because most of the traits from the mother dog will be passed on to her puppies so it is best to check out the mother dog before you buy a puppy. Talk to the breeder too if you are buying from a breeder.

It will give you a good idea of what your puppy will grow into...some puppies look a lot different when they are full grown. It also gives you a great idea of size and seeing how the Mother acts with the puppies is good too. Also some breeders are not honest about how a puppy lives before it is sold...seeing the pup with it's mother gives you an opportunity to see the cleanliness of the facility...

Adopt! There are plenty of good puppies up for adoption...

I understand the idea of checking out the mother before the puppies, but why buy a bred puppy (which often have problems from being inbred to keep it pure-blood) when so many puppies and dogs need to be adopted.

I'd agree you're looking to see the mum to see her temperment & what sort of condition she's in.

It also means that if you see the mother in good condition then the place you are buying it from is less likely to be a puppy farm & you're more likely to purchase a healthy, well adjusted & socialised little puppy - used to home life & people.

Genetics are powerful things. If the mother is in poor condition even if it is not genetic it can affect the babies. For example, vitamin defficiencies can mess up the pup for life. Also many breeds, assuming its purebred of course, are prone to getting the same diseases and problems. Now, if the mother has these its pretty safe to say the young is going to develop it too. And of course, if you're looking for a purebred a poor looking mother that looks like the wrong breed is proof that they dragged out the best they could One abusive owner did this because she was the only diog in half decent condition.

Just like the old saying "If you want to know what your wife is going to be like after 30 years of marriage, Look at her mother"
Dogs get a lot of their personality from their parents. The way you raise a dog has a lot to do with their personalities as well. But, also the conformation of the parents will let you know a bit about the quality of stock your pup comes from. Dams can look worn out due to the pups. But, you will see the environment she has been kept in, her temperament etc. I also want to see the sire.

It's best if you can see both parents, but if you can at least see the mother you can get an idea of the quality of the dog you are getting by paying attention to her health and her build. Are her teeth healthy? Does she walk weird? Does she have skin conditions? It gives you an idea of the type of genes your pup is inheriting though it does not mean your pup will be the same.

Most likely they want to see you, but you can tell a lot about the puppies' personalities by seeing the parents. Just like real kids !
