Why are some chefs so sensitive about their cooking?

I am not a professional chef but I have seen some who get upset when somebody doesn't like their cooking.Don't they know that you can't make everybody happy?

Cooking is their job, or an art that they are paid for. If they inherit a reputation that their food is not that good, people will not come to them to eat, which means less money in their pocket. No one will go to a chef with bad reviews. It is their livelyhood.

I think that a part of it may be that sometimes a chef would put in so much work into making something 'good' in their eye and it is just disappointing to find out that the person eating it doesnt agree. it's almost as if all that work was for nothing.

yes they can't make everybody happy but they did put in a lot of time preparing for the dish and it's their craft . i am a regular mom and i get upset when nobody eats the food i cook especially when my husband is too tired to eat . i think my cooking is bad so he just says sorry .........but most of the time he loves it especially my daughter and that really makes me happy to be appreciated ......

But it is still a reflection on their abilities and people get sensitive about that

Well they probably think they're the best, and that everyone will like their food. When someone says that they dont like it, its a shock to them.
