My boyfriends 17 year old daughter decided to go blond from a beautiful brunette color. The original color came out awful. She bought a highlighting kit that dyed her hair back to brown and gave it blond streaks. Well the second dye didn't take and she is stuck with the awful blond color. What are some options for her?

Ideally, I'd tell her to go to a salon-- double processed hair is pretty hard to fix.
If that'd not an option I'd tell her to use a low ammonia/ low peroxide haircolor in a shade or 2 darker than what she is aiming for--colored/overworked hair is less pourous and therefore will take color a lot less well (as evidenced in the fact that the 2nd dye job didn't quite take)
Also, it may just be the shade of blonde that she used that is to blame. In this case, using a toner might be a good option (look for them in beauty supply stores like Sally's)
If it is too reddish, I'd suggest counteracting this using a beige or ash blonde toner. If it is greyish/dull looking I'd suggest warming it up with any color that is labelled "Golden" or "Warm"

The reason it's 2 different colors is that you must have colored it dark the first time and then the second time you put something that made it red at the roots and wouldn't change the bottom. That's because tint cannot lighten tint, ever. This is unfortunatly what happens when inexperienced do it yourselfers try to do something they have no knowledge of. My only suggestion is to go to a professional, because dealing with bleach or color remover is not for amateurs. If you can't afford what corrective color may cost, then go to a GOOD school, where the teachers will be right on top of something like this. Better than attempting it yourself. A pro is the best but If you choose the latter, make sure you talk to the teacher and get a student almost ready to graduate.

well its not good to color over color unless you are a professional because it can really damage hair. hairdressers usually do hair in many different colors but they use foil or a lowlites tinting method. you can try a dark brown henna dye. it wont stay as long as permanent dye but if you are desperate it will cover up the blond and be less damaging to the hair. also keep in mind that the application should be done with caution and care so that the color is evenly spread throughout the hair.

she needs to get it professionall corrected...to get out some bad color i would try using Dawn dishsoap i know it sounds harsh and it is, but it gets out the aweful color...otherwise if you choose to do it yourself, go to sally beauty supply if you have one in the area..get a Demi-permenant color ot tone the blonde down..i would do probably a medium brown color, the ladies at the store should beable to help you..but if your not cinfident enough to do it, please take her to a professional and get it fixed that way

Please, take her to a professional for corrective coloring. It will be worth the money, and a hair stylist can give her some good pointers on how to take care of her hair in the future.

Go to JC Penny! They have a color corrective product that works wonders. It is a little costly but when it comes to hair you do not want to take anymore chances. Hopefully you have one near by. It is called color correction.

Wash out the dye if its not permanent. Manic Panic bleach can wash out hairdye if you put the power in the shampoo. And no it wont bleach your hair. Itll make the dye fall out. If you do this use a deep conditioner afterwards.

there are products sold at drug stores that extract permanent colors from the hair. i have one at home ad i used it to take the black color dye out of my hair. i think its called color bleach but you can buy it at duane reads

buy her another dye that is a very dark color (black or dark brown) then try it again

Shave it all off and start over. It'll be refreshing not to have to worry about her hair.
