Children are in the teaching phase of their life, under the supervision of their parents. Hopefully they are good parents. Parents do their best to give their children what they need, whether it is food, shelter education and religion is part of that education. When those kids become adults they in return will repeat the circle of life, and do unto their kids as their parents had done unto them. They are not forcing them, they teach them what they think is the best, no force, just part of parent hood.
One person point of view of force, is another guiding and caring hand. Would you rather have those kids get their independence which includes taking care of themselves along with their upkeep and earning their own wages!?
Parenthood is a complete package. You can't take part of it and discard what you dislike.

I have wondered about such things myself for quite some time. children, especially those over 13 who are in all actuality adults, don't have any rights to make choices about the things that impact their life. Religion IS a serious subject, and one that should NEVER be taken lightly. However, most people don't give their children a choice in even learning about religion, let alone which one they follow. Minors don't have a choice about being born, about when, where, how or to whom. They don't have a choice about going to shcool, abotu WHERE they go to shcool, or when. They are trated like complete morons and idiots simply becasue some antiquated legal code say they have to be. I say that, at the age of 13...ALL choices should be under their control, let them choose their religion, and EVERYTHING else. Even under that age under the right circumstances....but 13 definately.

the intolerance of religion takes away the freedom of others. Why shouldn't two adults have the opportunity to marry each other, just because an arbitrary book says its wrong. There will be no change in your life if/when same sex marriage laws are introduced.

I like Dawkins too.
It's an interesting proposal, but completely impractical. I'd love to see a world where kids aren't exposed to such ridiculous crap until they have a solid scientific foundation. But it'll never happen.
And really, what does it matter? If generations of humans die in ignorance or enlightenment, they are still dead at the end. Whatever.

Silliness. You're calling for all parents to abdicate their parental responsibilities to guide and protect their children in a very important aspect of their development.
When parents try to force their children into anything, they will fail. When parents teach and show by loving example, they will almost always succeed.

So you'd keep Christians from brain washing their own children by brain washing them against their parents will?
Just because you don't like a person's opinion doesn't mean you should cut them off. What country did you grow up in that taught you this discrimination?

NO!!! My father tried to force his religion on me. It refused, deciding instead to follow the Bible as I saw it. It caused a deep schism between us that still has not been healed completely.
My advice to parents: Let your child decide their own religious beliefs. My self-esteem is still very low because I was always degraded because my father's views did not match mine!

Religion is the worst type of slavery. It can hardly be equated with the term "Freedom"

We as adults, are supposed to know what's good for our children. Do we force our kids to learn ? YES.
Do we force our kids to go to school ? YES.
Do we force our kids to bathe ? YES.
Do we force our kids to eat, go to bed, and dress warmly ? YES.

no this is their God given right and God expects us to raise our children in knowledge of Him, it should not be rammed down their throats as you put it but taught with love and patience.
