At work we have an annual Kris Kringle. It's a secret, random draw and I've drawn someone I personally find difficult and moody. This woman has been extremely rude to me for most of the year - often ignoring me and answering in monosyllables - if at all when I have needed information. To my knowledge - she doesn't treat anyone else the same way - although others have commented through the year - on her open bitchiness/indifference/rudeness towards me. I have never come across this problem before. It is supposed to be a nice present. Any ideas?

Give her a nice gift. You arn't just giving her a gift - in a way you are giving the whole office this gift. If you give a poor gift it will set off negative vibes for everyone else. Remember that the true reason for Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ and all the positive influences that this means for the world.

I don't know what the spending limit is, but here's what I'd do.

I'd find out what her fave perfume is. Or maybe there's a particular style or brand of shirt she wears. Something personal. No jewelry, that's over the top. But something personal that's not too "intimate." Then I'd ask a co-worker friend to "drop" to her that you're her Kris Kringle giver, so that when she sees the gift you've given her, she'll see that you've actually put some thought into it.

Knowing that even though she's been rude and nasty to you, you still thought enough to give her something nice might change her attitude.

Good luck :)

I think a gift certificate is a good idea so that she can just buy what she wants. However, since yuor saying she is a mean person, you don't want her to get offended by the gift card and to think that you didn't spend enough money on her. Maybe a box of high clas chocolates, such as Godiva?

Yes, it should be a nice present despite her character. You want to set a good example for her. There may be hope of turning her into a human being. Since she hasn't let you get to know her by being social, may I suggest a gift card to a place that has a variety of items with a note stating, you haven't had the pleasure to really get to know her but would like her to get something she would like.

Every office has one of those don't they?

So its secret, she won't know its you? Then I think a gift card for a local book store. (same answer I gave for the boss gift)
or a gift card for the local wal-mart or other discount store.

Now, if she will find out its from you, then you may think about getting her an etiquette book, (hehehe) no, the gift card is still a good idea.
